Track Bike: Fixie for Velodrome Racing

A track bike is uncompromisingly designed for efficiency and speed: fixed gear without a freewheel (fixie), no brakes, and a fixed sprocket for direct power transfer from the chainring to the rear wheel. Track bikes are ridden in velodromes – oval cycling tracks with steeply banked curves, usually 250 meters long and often made of wood – whose incline allows for high speeds and consistent racing lines. Disciplines such as sprint, keirin, omnium, and team pursuit place different demands on aerodynamics, stiffness, and acceleration. For races under the regulations of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), track bikes must meet strict technical specifications to be eligible for international competition.
