Lightskin was founded in the 2010s within the context of the German bicycle industry. The name Lightskin is composed of the English words “light” and “skin”. It refers to a “light skin,” meaning a lighting system that integrates seamlessly into the surface of bicycle components. Lightskin is a manufacturer of integrated bicycle lighting and specializes in developing solutions in which light is built directly into bicycle components, such as handlebars or stems.
LightSKIN LED Handlebar Akku 700mmLightSKIN was founded in 2010 by the South Korean company Evergreen I&D. The manufacturer is based in Geochang, South Korea. The name LightSKIN is a combination of the English words light and skin, referring to a light layer that seamlessly integrates into the surface of bicycle components. In cooperation with the Berlin bicycle manufacturer Schindelhauer, StVZO-compliant versions were created for the German market. The seatpost won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010, followed by the LED handlebar in 2020. In 2023, the NACAROAD front light received the EURO BIKE AWARD.
The first product was a seatpost with an integrated LED rear light, launched in 2010 and immediately winning a design award. Gradually, a handlebar with a built-in LED front light was added to the system. Both components are coordinated to form a complete lighting system. Later, the NACAROAD road bike front light as well as replacement batteries and further accessories followed. LightSKIN pursues the goal of reducing the number of individual add-on parts and integrating lighting directly into the bicycle.
LightSKIN products are sold in bicycle shops and online stores in Europe, Asia and North America. Distribution focuses on Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Korea and other European countries. The exact number of sales outlets amounts to several hundred dealers, supplemented by the manufacturer's online shop and partner platforms.
For seatposts, a choice can be made between two diameters, 27.2 millimetres and 31.6 millimetres, to accommodate different frame openings. The handlebars are available in two widths, 640 millimetres and 700 millimetres. All models are battery-powered and StVZO-certified. The lighting technology is identical across all variants, with brightness and anti-glare light complying with German road traffic regulations.
