Gravel bikes and cyclocross bikes are very similar; however, gravel bikes are better suited for longer tours. Gravel bikes are fast, but not quite as fast as road bikes. However, riding on gravel is safer with a gravel bike, which one would avoid with a road bike. City bikes and trekking bikes have good suspension – gravel bikes often have even better suspension, increasing comfort and robustness when riding off-road. Gravel bikes are suitable for light to moderate terrain, but are lighter than mountain bikes. Very challenging terrain is best handled with a mountain bike.
