The Bike Experience Fourfold Spanngummi / 60cmThe company Messingschlager was founded in 1924 in Bamberg by Anton Messingschlager and his wife Gunda. The company name derives from the founder's surname. The first product was a skirt guard for bicycles, designed to prevent women's dresses and coats from getting caught in the spokes. After Anton Messingschlager's death in 1948, his son Rudolf took over management at the age of just fifteen. The company moved several times and finally settled in Baunach in 1969. In 1989, Benno Messingschlager joined as the third generation and assumed management in 2003. In 2021, the Hama Group acquired the majority stake. Today, Messingschlager employs around 150 people and is considered the largest warehouse for bicycle parts in Europe.
The very first product was the aforementioned textile skirt guard. Gradually, Messingschlager expanded its range to include bicycle lighting, mudguards, luggage racks and spare parts. In the 1970s, the company began cooperating with tyre manufacturer Kenda, followed by partnerships with saddle and grip manufacturer Velo in 1993 and chain manufacturer KMC in 1996. Today, Messingschlager distributes more than thirty brands, including Brose, Goodyear, Motul, Rotor and its own brand M-Wave. The range covers tyres, drivetrain components, lighting, saddles, grips, clothing and care products.
Messingschlager products are sold through bicycle wholesalers, specialist dealers and online shops in more than sixty countries worldwide. The company supplies over 2000 customers across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. The headquarters in Baunach includes a high-bay warehouse of over 16,000 square metres, with an additional warehouse located in North America.
