Marin Presidio 1 – The urban commuter with a military namesake

The name "Presidio" derives from the Spanish word for "fortified military settlement" and references the historic Presidio of San Francisco. This former army base sits at the northwestern tip of the peninsula and is the first piece of land riders encounter when commuting across the Golden Gate Bridge from Marin County into San Francisco. The moniker underscores the bicycle's role as a steadfast means of transportation in everyday city life.

The model designation consists of two components: "Presidio" identifies the entire series, while the digit "1" denotes the most affordable entry-level variant within this lineup. It represents the base model of the Presidio family.

Compared to its siblings Presidio 2 and Presidio 3, the Presidio 1 distinguishes itself through several specification details: it uses a Cr-Mo steel fork instead of an aluminium fork, routes all cables externally rather than internally, and relies on Tektro hydraulic brakes instead of the Shimano U300 brakes found on the pricier models. The tyre width is slightly more generous at 35 millimetres versus the 32-millimetre tyres of the Presidio 2 and 3, and the drivetrain consists of a Shimano Altus 8-speed groupset paired with a Sunrace cassette.

The intended purpose of the Marin Presidio 1 is daily urban commuting: it was designed as a dependable city bike built for longevity and minimal maintenance.
