Comfortable, functional, and featuring a minimalist design, Emila is a fully equipped e-bike with all the advantages of an all-rounder and state-of-the-art 9-speed Pinion gearbox. The inconspicuous 250-watt motor integrated into the rear wheel hub and the 250Wh battery located in the down tube offer enduring riding pleasure thanks to reliable components from Mahle.

Cobblestone streets and rough park paths become your new favorite shortcuts thanks to the large-volume tires. The Gates Carbon Drive belt allows for three to four times the mileage of a chain – with the same efficiency, but less maintenance and noise. Oiling and greasing are a thing of the past, as are dirty pants legs.

Schindelhauer EMILIA IX X35: The fully equipped urban e-bike with 9-speed Pinion gearbox

The frame is built from triple-butted AL6061-T6 aluminium, formed into an aero tube set with a forged Pinion bridge, forged dropouts complete with sliding tensioner system and Schindelhauer belt port. Smoothly welded seams, completely internal cable routing and drilled mounting points for the permanently attached front rack create a reduced silhouette free of cable clutter at the front. A hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered head tube, internal cable routing, post mount brake mount and 15 mm through-axle completes the front end. The hydraulic Shimano MT200 disc brakes with 160 mm rotors deliver consistent braking and plenty of reserve in the wet and under load. The low-step trapezoid frame makes mounting, dismounting and standing over the bike easy even in dense traffic and at the traffic light.

Shifting happens through a Pinion C-Line gear unit with nine gears that runs sequentially in the bottom bracket and shifts even while standing still. With a spread of 568 percent, the gearbox covers flat city routes as well as long climbs in the surrounding hills, without ever changing between front and rear hub. Because the gearbox works exactly where pedalling power is generated, the rear wheel stays calm and the bearings stay protected. Drive force is transmitted by a Gates carbon toothed belt: carbon fibres carry the load while a stainless-steel mesh woven into it protects the joints. The drivetrain therefore stays quiet in the long run, keeps working cleanly after rain and lasts three to four times as long as a chain, which means fewer replacement intervals and constant forward drive.

Lighting is handled by the LightSKIN Ultra-Mini-Light U2E at the front with 150 lumens – the smallest StVZO-approved bicycle lamp in the world – and the ILU jr. at the rear. Both lamps are powered directly from the 250 Wh battery, so they are ready at any time and run with every start. Front and rear light sit flat in the Curana Apollo mudguards made of aluminium profile, where they barely stand out in city traffic. Together with the 47 mm WTB Horizon tyres on 27.5-inch Alexrims DP23 rims with reflective strip, the swept-back Schindelhauer CITY handlebar and a Schindelhauer saddle, they create an upright and relaxed riding position that takes cobblestones in stride.

All cargo solutions stem from the frame-mounted aluminium front rack. Because it attaches to the frame rather than the fork, handling stays precise and direct even when the rack is fully loaded. The VarioStrap tensioning system holds luggage pieces of any shape, and the mount is prepared for Ortlieb Rack-Lock – which makes the bike equally suitable for multi-day trips, extended weekend tours and spontaneous bikepacking adventures. Rounded off by the Curana Apollo mudguards, a kickstand mounting point, holders for bottle and lock as well as space for a frame lock, the 130 kg total weight rating leaves plenty of room for shopping, luggage and accessories.

Mahle ebikemotion supplies the propulsion as a hub drive in the rear wheel with 250 watts, 40 Nm of torque and support up to 25 km/h. The Intube battery with around 250 Wh sits invisibly in the down tube, while control runs through the iWoc ONE with Bluetooth and ANT+ or via app. The motor works very quietly and delivers its torque without delay, so the bike reacts immediately and calmly when pulling away and on inclines.

Where the designation EMILIA IX X35 comes from

“Emilia” is the female model name and stands for the low-step frame, while “Emil” denotes the male counterpart with diamond frame. “IX” is the Roman nine and refers to the nine gears of the Pinion C-Line gear unit – the six-speed version is correspondingly called VI. “X35” names the generation of the electric drive from Mahle ebikemotion with 250 watts and 40 Newton metres, while the successor generation X20 runs with 55 Newton metres. “S (45cm)” is the frame size and “salbeigrün” the colour. Together, this yields the fully equipped nine-speed edition of the electrified all-rounder series.

How the IX version stands apart from the other models in the range

The EMILIA IX X35 is the most versatile version in the range and at the same time offers the widest shifting span. Compared to the VI version with six gears and a spread of 295 percent, nine gears with a spread of 568 percent do the job here – ideal for commuters who include hills, river meadows or longer climbs into the surrounding countryside alongside the city. The difference of just 0.3 kg compared with the six-speed version is easy to live with in everyday use and brings noticeably more flexibility over longer distances.

Compared to the X20 generation, the X35 models deliver 40 instead of 55 Newton metres, and in return they come with the hydraulic Shimano MT200 braking system and 47 mm WTB Horizon tyres on Alexrims DP23 rims. The X20 specification, by contrast, relies on 50 mm Continental Contact Urban, Kinlin TL23R rims and a Selle Royal Essenza saddle – an equipment line that cultivates a slightly punchier and more direct riding character. In terms of colour, the generation is clearly separated: sage green and mineral grey define the X35 versions, while the X20 models are available in mineral grey, midnight green and lavender blue.

Who this e-bike was built for

The nine-speed IX is aimed at everyone who rides city and countryside alike and is looking for a commuter that keeps going on its own over hills, in headwind and on the long way home. Nine gears provide the reserve for steep side streets, while the 250 Wh battery delivers enough energy in stop-and-go traffic to cover even the longer distance in one go. Frame-mounted front rack, mudguards and StVZO lighting make the bike fit for purpose from the first kilometre.

The counterpart within the range is Emil, the same bike with a diamond frame, built in sizes S, M and L for everyone who prefers a sportier frame with identical technology. Beyond the electrified all-rounders, the Schindelhauer programme comprises Gustav and Greta as classic city bikes with Nexus hub gears, Arthur and Antonia as minimalist e-bikes with Mahle drive, Ludwig and Lotte as high-quality all-rounders with Alfine gear, Wilhelm as the gravel bike for terrain and tour, Siegfried and Hektor as two purist singlespeed models, Cato as the track bike and Neo as the compact 20-inch folding bike. Within this breadth, the EMILIA IX X35 is the choice for everyone who wants to use the maximum of gear range and equipment from the electric line-up.
