Single speed – but motorized with Mahle X20, 250 W, 55 Nm. It is the ideal e-bike for cyclists who want to get through city traffic coolly and agilely with an extra boost. The latest LED technology from LightSKIN is perfectly integrated into the handlebars and seat post. With the carbon toothed belt, there is no maintenance work, and without oil or grease, your pants stay clean.
Function and design in harmony. The frame is designed for exceptional demands, as it is very light yet robust and offers enough space to route all cables and brake cables internally. Schindelhauer's patented belt port, an almost invisible opening at the dropout, allows the toothed belt to be changed. The slide tensioning system is used for optimal adjustment of the belt tension.

Enable Youtube videosGarnet red is not a signal colour but a statement colour: a deep, warm red that has the same effect on a smooth frame as it does at a traffic light, without becoming loud. On this bike the colour comes alongside a construction idea that Schindelhauer itself formulates as a guiding principle: electrically inside, bicycle outside. The AL6061-T6 frame with aero-shaped tubeset is triple butted, that is stout at the welds, medium in the transition and slim in the middle; smoothed seams, internal cable routing and an integrated seat clamp ensure that no edge and no cable disturbs the picture. Forged bottom bracket shell and forged dropouts with sliding tensioner and the patented belt port absorb loads and allow the belt to be changed without dismantling the bike. The integrated motor connector also sits in the frame, and the hydroformed tapered aluminium fork carries the internal cable routing up to the Acros ICR headset of 1.5 inches.
A single gear ratio demands a precise translation, and precisely that is what the configuration delivers: 60 teeth at the front, 22 at the rear on a 118T toothed belt from Gates Carbon Drive CDX. The ratio is chosen so that a calm cadence is sufficient in the city and the belt runs evenly even under higher load. There is no shifting because there is nothing to shift – the press-fit bottom bracket and the Shimano Alfine Hollowtech II crankset form a fixed unit, complemented by CNC-machined urban pedals in aluminium for a secure foot position. The carbon toothed belt is the reason why nothing on this bike is oiled or greased and why trousers stay clean even after a week off the road.
The electric side comes from Mahle and carries the X20 designation. The hub drive works as a particularly light rear hub motor with 250 W and up to 55 Nm of torque, connected via a 12 mm through-axle directly in the wheel; visually it is barely noticeable. The Intube battery of around 250 Wh rests in the down tube and delivers between 50 and 80 km depending on the level selected, a full charge takes about three hours, and in the case of servicing it can be removed. Control runs via the head unit in the top tube, which comes with Bluetooth and ANT+; in addition, the app for iOS and Android as well as further smart features put the bike in reach. Two things shape everyday life more strongly than the numbers: the complete absence of cables in the field of view and the fact that the entire technology concentrates in two places – up in the tube and in the rear wheel.
Light, contact points and comfort are provided by the components around it. The LightSKIN riser handlebar shape carries the integrated headlight, the LightSKIN seat post the integrated rear light; both are StVZO-compliant and supplied from the battery, so nothing has to be retrofitted in the evening. Added to this are the Brooks Swift saddle with chromed frame, Schindelhauer ergo leather grips and the Satori Stealth aluminium stem. The wheels work with the Schindelhauer StraightPull front hub with disc mount, the StraightPull hub motor of the X20, Kinlin TL23R rims and Sapim Race spokes laced 3-cross and 2-cross, so that hub, motor and spokes operate as a unit; Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622 ensure quiet rolling, Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors provide safe braking in the wet. Rear rack mount, kickstand mount and mounts for bottle and lock holder are provided. The weight of 13.4 kg in size M keeps the bike easy to handle even when it has to go into cellar, lift or train.
Four components resolve the name. ARTHUR is the range, named after a traditional European first name, and stands for the diamond variant of the minimalist e-bike range; internally it is called the avant-gardist and means a bike that is electrically assisted without denying its origin. X20 is the drive generation from Mahle with hub drive, 250 W, 55 Nm, Intube battery and head unit in the top tube, and it delimits the model from the previous generation. SSP is the abbreviation for the single-speed principle and explains why no Roman numeral appears in the name: gear levels are designated at Schindelhauer with VI and IX, and a bike without a gear unit does not need that label. Garnet red is the colour that the dealer name adds; the same equipment is also available in graphite black, and the frame heights here run from S at 53 cm to M at 56 cm.
The range can be sorted by gearing, motor generation and equipment, and this bike sits at the interface of all three. Compared with the X35 generation it retains the same even fixed-drive logic, but relies on the newer X20 electrics with 55 Nm, on the head unit in the top tube, on StraightPull hubs with Kinlin TL23R rims and on Alfine S7000 hydraulic brakes. Compared with the ARTHUR VI X20 and ARTHUR IX X20, it replaces the Pinion gear unit with the fixed ratio and thus remains at 13.4 kg, while those models rely on gear unit and Curana DLite mudguards for all-season comfort and changing requirements. Compared with the ARTHUR Cruiser it stays with the 35er tyre and the sporty-comfort geometry, while the Cruiser adds front basket, greater backsweep and 47er tyres. Above all stands the ARTHUR IX ULTIMATE as the most refined level of equipment. In colour the garnet red is shared with the X20 SSP in graphite black, while the geared models appear in cream white and midnight blue.
Those addressed are all who do not want to be slow in city traffic and at the same time do not want to operate a gear unit. At 13.4 kg and with a single ratio, every manoeuvre is simple: starting off, stopping, turning, parking. The carbon belt stays so quiet that the bike does not stand out in inner-city noise, and the 50 to 80 km of range cover a working day without the bike having to spend the night on the power grid. The light in handlebar and seat post, the full integration of battery and motor and the app access via Bluetooth create a machine that makes the same impression in the office as on Saturday on the way home. For everyone who weighs distance, quiet operation and low maintenance equally and wants a bike that does not disappear visually, this garnet red model is the most consistent choice.
A female counterpart exists as well: the ANTONIA range carries the same VI and IX pairings of Pinion gear unit and Mahle drive, yet is built as a step-through with a lowered top tube and an additional XS frame. Anyone preferring an upright posture therefore chooses between two frame silhouettes – a diamond frame for a sporty-classic seat and a lowered entry for relaxed arrival – with identical technology at whichever level of specification is chosen.
