Marin – Pioneer Spirit from the Birthplace of Mountain Biking

Marin Bikes was founded in 1986 by Bob Buckley in Marin County, California – the cradle of mountain biking. Buckley, who took up cycling to rehabilitate his knee after a waterskiing accident, hired Mountain Bike Hall of Famer Joe Murray as his first employee to drive product development. The company name and model designations remain a tribute to their home to this day: Marin County, where the founders themselves rode the trails. The first model, the Madrone Trail, hit the market in 1986 for $199. As early as 1988, the Team Titanium followed as one of the first production titanium mountain bikes ever. In 1991, Marin invented an entirely new bicycle segment with the "hybrid" category. After a change of ownership in 2012, Marin continues to be managed from its headquarters in Petaluma, California.

Marin began as a pure mountain bike brand. After the Madrone Trail and Team Titanium, models such as the Eldridge Grade and Pine Mountain followed, cementing the brand's reputation in the MTB scene. In the late 1990s, Marin developed the first full-suspension mountain bikes together with British engineer Jon Whyte. 2003 saw the patented Quad-Link rear suspension system. In 2014, Marin entered the carbon full-suspension market with the Attack Trail and Mount Vision. In 2016, the brand expanded its portfolio towards gravel with the Gestalt series. This was followed by the Hawk Hill (2017), the MultiTrac suspension (2018), the urban Presidio (2019), the road bike offshoot Nicasio, the Larkspur as a mixte cruiser (2021), the alpine Rift Zone, and the downhill rocket Quake. Since 2025, the Lombard E has been Marin's first electric gravel bike.

Marin bikes are now sold through a worldwide dealer network in over 60 countries – from North America through Europe to Asia and Australia. The brand is present in thousands of bike shops and ranks among the established players in the mid to premium price segment.

With Marin, you can choose between classic bicycles without a motor and e-bikes with drives from Bosch or Shimano. Aluminium, carbon and high-quality CroMo steel are used depending on the model and area of application. The gearing ranges from simple singlespeed setups through Shimano and SRAM derailleur gears to hub gears on urban models. Marin does not offer belt drive. The colour palette varies by model and season and includes subdued tones such as grey, black and olive as well as accent-rich colours. Many models are available as either diamond or trapezoidal frames, so both men and women can find the right bike.
