This bike combines the two most sophisticated technologies Schindelhauer has ever installed in a Heinrich: a stepless automatic hub gear and the digital Bosch Smart System. The enviolo TR with AUTOMATiQ mode and electronic eShift operates without cables and without any lever and keeps the pedalling frequency constant, while the hub tracks the ratio in the background. The Bosch Performance CX from the Smart System delivers 250 watts nominal power and 85 Nm of torque, supporting up to 25 km/h. Motor and hub are controlled, as the manufacturer's description puts it, individually according to rider preference: set your preferred cadence and assistance level, and both systems work together. The result is a bike that cannot be adjusted, but adjusts itself.
Digitally it does not stop at the hub. Via the eBike Flow app, the smartphone can be connected to the Smart System, riding dynamics can be customised, personal profiles created and over-the-air updates installed. The Bosch ConnectModule can optionally be added and protects the bike against theft via GPS tracking. Display and operation are handled by the Bosch KIOX onboard computer in combination with a wireless LED remote. The PowerTube 500 with around 500 Wh can be removed on the road, as the bike provides for in everyday life too: transport luggage, take the battery out, carry on.
The AL6061-T6 aluminium frame follows the familiar series: a triple-butted tube set, a forged motor bridge, a multi-cell down tube, a forged dropout with slide tensioning system and Belt Port, an integrated saddle clamp and smoothed welds. This complex in-house development encloses motor and battery as compactly as possible without losing functionality or stability, and gives the mid-drive bike the sporty cornering behaviour you would otherwise expect from a race bike. The fork is hydroformed aluminium with a tapered profile, internal cable routing, post-mount brake mount and 15 mm thru-axle; the headset is an integrated Acros ICR 1.5".
One detail sets this bike apart from all other Heinrichs: the two leather parts, a Brooks B17 saddle and Schindelhauer Ergo leather grips. Neither is a cheap consumable, they are made to patinate with age and to age along with the bike. Added to this is a RackTime rear rack with SnapIt quick-release, which is mounted as a real luggage carrier and does not have to be attached first.
Weather protection is also standard: Alumee mudguards 60 mm wide in Schindelhauer specification keep rain and dirt away. The lighting consists of the Supernova Mini 2 headlight at the front and a Supernova E3 tail light, both powered from the e-bike battery. A front rack can be fitted. A lock holder can be attached beneath the top tube, a frame lock can also be mounted. The seat tube provides for a child seat, and for the rear wheel axle a child trailer can be hitched via a coupling adapter – subject to approval by the respective manufacturer. The Hebie 663 FIX18 side stand is part of the equipment; the permissible total weight of bike, rider and luggage is 155 kg.
It is ridden via a Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt with 50 teeth at the front, 22 at the rear and 118 teeth in total. The wide Schwalbe G-One Speed tyres in 50-584, that is 50 millimetres, with reflective stripes run on 27.5-inch Alexrims EXR25 rims with eyelets and Sapim Race spokes in three- and two-fold lacing. The hubs are Schindelhauer high-flange Disc at the front and enviolo TR at the rear. Brakes are Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors. Added to this are the Miranda Delta crankset, CNC-machined Schindelhauer Urban Pedal in aluminium, the Satori Stealth stem and the Satori Seagull handlebar.
At 24.9 kg in size M it is the heaviest bike in the range, and that is the price of full equipment: mudguards, rear rack, enviolo hub, Shimano S7000 hydraulics, the 50-millimetre tyres and the complete lighting system weigh more than the shifting mechanics saved. In return you get everything from the factory, plus leather details and the strongest motor tier of the brand in one frame.
Heinrich – the name of the series. The brand uses first names that sound Old High German and organises them by a system with a direct technical consequence: male names stand for the diamond frame, female names for the step-through frame. Heinrich is therefore the closed version; the female counterpart Hannah carries the same technology with a swan neck and a low step-through.
Enviolo – the name of the manufacturer of the stepless hub gear after which the bike is named. enviolo hubs know no individual gears but continuously specify the ratio between pedal and wheel rotation. AUTOMATiQ with electronic eShift adds an automatic function that takes over this adjustment itself. In the same series, the Alfine version with eight fixed gears and the SSP version with a fixed ratio exist – three gear concepts on an identical basic construction.
Bosch Smart – the marking of the digital generation. It means that motor, battery, display and controls work as a networked system: Kiox onboard computer, LED remote, smartphone connection via the eBike Flow app, over-the-air updates and ConnectModule preparation for GPS theft protection. In this constellation the most powerful motor model is also installed, the Performance CX with 85 Nm.
Mitternachtsblau – the colour variant. A deep, dark blue which in daylight almost appears black but retains a clear blue tone in the shade. Together with the brown Brooks saddle and the leather grips this creates a colour combination that is deliberately classic. Graphitschwarz, perlblau, titansilber and granatrot are also available in the Heinrich family.
Frame, fork, Gates CDX belt, wheels, hubs, crankset, pedals, stem, handlebar, mudguards, luggage rack, lighting and side stand are essentially the same across the enviolo versions. The difference lies in two dimensions: the motor tier and the equipment.
The Enviolo Bosch Smart presented here is the most comprehensive version: 85 Nm instead of the Performance Line version's 65 Nm, and beyond that a motorbike with leather details. The Brooks B17 saddle, the Ergo leather grips, the Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic brakes and the 50-millimetre Schwalbe G-One tyres are above what the simpler enviolo models offer. Compared with the SSP Bosch Smart, which brings the same 85 Nm motor but runs with a fixed ratio, no luggage rack, no mudguards and a weight of 19.7 kg, this bike is the complete, most comfortable expression of the same peak performance. Compared with the Alfine version with eight gears and a Schindelhauer high-flange Disc rear hub, it relies on the enviolo hub and the digital generation.
The choice is therefore between three things: gear technology, equipment and digitalisation. Anyone looking for maximum equipment and leather gets both here. Anyone who wants a light, minimal bike is well served by the SSP Bosch Smart with its 19.7 kg. Anyone looking for gears and all-round equipment without the Smart System finds this in the Alfine version. This Heinrich is the answer to the question of what happens when you go all three ways at once.
The manufacturer calls this bike a master of all disciplines, and this description can best be read from its capabilities. The bike can commute, it can go shopping, it can ride a longer round at the weekend, and it can ride in the rain with luggage, because mudguards and rear rack are part of the factory specification. The 50-millimetre tyres on 27.5-inch wheels absorb unevenness and offer more comfort on asphalt than a narrower profile would. The raised handlebar position of the Satori Seagull and the Brooks B17 saddle provide a relaxed seating position that also copes with longer stages, and the hydraulic disc brakes deliver predictable deceleration in the wet.
The automatic makes the difference here: you set the pedalling frequency once and ride. Traffic light starts, headwind and every gradient then take care of themselves, because the hub balances the load and the motor supplies the power. Hub, gear and motor work together, and that is exactly what makes this bike the most balanced in the range. Anyone who regularly rides long distances will appreciate the constant pedalling frequency, because it keeps the strain even.
Against the other series the delimitation is as usual: Arthur and Antonia are more sporty-upright, the Emil more urban and nimble, and the Wilhelm family is built as a custom and gravel bike with Pinion, Rohloff or Alfine Di2 technology for other purposes. Among the gender-specific variants and frame shapes, Hannah is the female counterpart to Heinrich, technically identical but with a swan-neck trapezoid frame and a low step-through. Here the Heinrich is offered exclusively as a diamond frame, in sizes M (48 cm) and L (53 cm), each in mitternachtsblau.
