Emil is a fully equipped e-bike with all the advantages of an all-rounder and a modern aluminium frame. Up to 55 Nm of torque ensures exceptional riding dynamics – the MAHLE X20 motor is slim and lightweight, and the carbon toothed belt enables up to four times the mileage of a chain. No grease or oil means no dirt on your clothes. Add to that the great design: the battery is concealed in the down tube and there is only one button on the top tube for control.
Comfortable, functional and with a powerful minimalist design. Another highlight is the frame-mounted front luggage rack with a clever tension strap system. Even larger loads can be transported safely without affecting handling. The LightSKIN Ultra-Mini-Light U2E, the world's smallest StVZO bicycle front light, integrated into the aluminium profile mudguard, ensures optimum visibility at night.
The frame consists of triple-butted AL6061-T6 aluminium in an aero tube set, equipped with a forged bottom bracket shell, forged dropouts including sliding tensioner system and Schindelhauer belt port. Integrated motor plug, integrated seatpost clamp, smoothed welds and internal cable routing create a flawless surface and a reduced design line. The longer head tube, the shorter Satori Stealth aluminium stem and the Acros ICR 1.5-inch headset form a comfortable, upright seating position in which even long stages can be ridden in a relaxed way. The hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered head tube, internal cable routing, post mount brake mount and 15 mm through-axle is matched to the overall picture.
The Pinion C-Line gear unit with six gears, developed by former Porsche engineers, works sequentially in the bottom bracket and delivers precise gear changes at standstill as well as while riding. Its spread of 295 percent covers flat city routes and the usual gradients of urban terrain with authority. Because the gearbox sits directly in the chain of power, the rear wheel stays calm and the bearings are spared. Drive force is transmitted by a Gates Carbon Drive CDX toothed belt with 39 teeth at the front, 34/28 teeth at the rear and 118 or 115 teeth – three to four times the service life of a chain at the same efficiency, with less maintenance and a clean running result. Pinion bottom bracket, Pinion crankset and VP plastic pedals with grip tape and industrial bearings complete the drivetrain.
Drive is supplied by the Mahle X20 hub drive with 250 watts, 55 Nm of torque and support up to 25 km/h – the highest torque of the entire range. The X20 Intube battery with around 250 Wh sits invisibly in the down tube, and the Mahle X20 head unit in the top tube takes over control and riding modes via Bluetooth and ANT+. The motor is integrated into the rear wheel hub via a 12 mm through-axle, while the wheel uses a straight-pull front hub disc. 55 Nm provide decisive pull-away and sovereign reserves on every incline.
On 27.5-inch Kinlin TL23R rims with Sapim race spokes and three-fold and two-fold lacing run 50 mm wide Continental Contact Urban tyres with reflective strip – high-volume tyres that absorb cobblestones and park paths. Hydraulic Shimano MT200 disc brakes with 160 mm rotors deliver reliable deceleration. Schindelhauer CITY handlebar, Schindelhauer grips and seatpost as well as the Selle Royal Essenza moderate saddle form a comfort-oriented specification in reduced design.
The lighting consists of the LightSKIN Ultra-Mini-Light U2E at the front and the ILU jr. at the rear, both StVZO-approved and powered directly from the battery. With 150 lumens, the front light is the smallest StVZO-approved bicycle light in the world and is integrated flat into the Curana Apollo mudguard made of aluminium profile – the rear light sits just as flat in the mudguard skirt. The frame-mounted aluminium front rack with VarioStrap tensioning system holds luggage pieces of any shape securely and leaves the handling unchanged even with larger loads: the basis for weekend trips, multi-day tours and spontaneous bikepacking adventures. Added to this are the option of a kickstand, holders for bottle and lock as well as the possibility of fitting a frame lock. The total weight rating of 130 kg leaves plenty of room for shopping and luggage.
“Emil” is the male model name and stands for the diamond frame version of the range, whose female counterpart “Emilia” realises the same drive on a trapezoid frame with low entry. “VI” is the Roman six and designates the six gears of the Pinion C-Line gear unit with 295 percent spread; the nine-speed edition runs as IX. “X20” names the drive generation from Mahle with 250 watts, 55 Newton metres and the head unit in the top tube – the successor generation X35 works with 40 Newton metres. “S (45cm)” refers to the frame size and “mineralgrau” to the colour. Taken together, this yields the entry into the X20 line: fully equipped, with the highest torque in the range and the lowest weight within the X20 generation.
The EMIL VI X20 combines the highest torque in the range with the lowest weight within the X20 line: 18.3 kg for the six-speed version against 18.6 kg for the nine-speed IX. Compared to the IX gearbox with 568 percent spread, the six-speed model stays at 295 percent – the right configuration for city traffic, commute routes and everyday gradients, and it makes the bike easier to handle when carrying and loading.
The differences compared with the X35 generation are clear: 55 instead of 40 Newton metres, 50 mm Continental Contact Urban tyres on Kinlin TL23R rims instead of 47 mm WTB Horizon on Alexrims DP23, a Selle Royal Essenza moderate saddle instead of the Schindelhauer saddle, the Mahle X20 head unit in the top tube instead of the iWoc ONE, a forged bottom bracket shell instead of the forged Pinion bridge as well as a 12 mm through-axle at the motor. In terms of colour, the X20 generation is broader: mineral grey, midnight green and lavender blue are available.
The EMIL VI X20 is aimed at everyone who is looking for a classic diamond frame, the full equipment of the X20 line and strong torque – and who wants to ride a manageable bike with six gears. The 55 Nm provide quiet, decisive pull-away and bring reserve on hills and longer climbs. Six gears cover city traffic and commute routes comfortably, the 250 Wh carry the stop-and-go traffic and the way to work, and the upright seating position with longer head tube and shorter stem keeps even long kilometres pleasant.
Emilia with trapezoid frame is the female counterpart; beyond that, the Schindelhauer programme includes Gustav and Greta as classic city bikes with Nexus hub gears, Arthur and Antonia as minimalist e-bikes with Mahle drive, Ludwig and Lotte as high-quality all-rounders with Alfine gear, Wilhelm as the gravel bike for terrain and tour, Siegfried and Hektor as two purist singlespeed models, Cato as the track bike and Neo as the compact 20-inch folding bike. The EMIL VI X20 is the entry into Schindelhauer’s most premium electric line-up: fully equipped, with classic frame and full drive reserve.
