Arthur. It is the ideal e-bike for cyclists who want to get through city traffic in a relaxed and agile manner with an extra boost: fully integrated electric drive with 55 Nm, C-Line 6-speed gearbox, and carbon fiber belt drive. Experience the most advanced electrification of the classic Schindelhauer bike. With the Gates Carbon Drive belt, you can cover up to four times as many kilometers as with a chain, and it's maintenance-free and oil- and grease-free, so your pants stay clean.

With the Arthur, you not only exude classic elegance—you feel it too. Electric assistance in several stages, your muscle power, and a high-end transmission interact perfectly with each other. Perfect design; the battery is invisibly placed in the down tube and there is only one button on the top tube for control.

A cream-white frame changes the tone of an entire range: where graphite or midnight blue stay understated, cream white steps forward and draws attention to proportions and surface. That is exactly where Schindelhauer sets its standards, because full integration of the drive leaves the paint little room for error. The frame is built from an aero-shaped AL6061-T6 tubeset, triple butted, with generous wall thickness at the welds and a slim centre; forged bottom bracket shell and forged dropouts with sliding tensioner absorb the loads. The patented belt port sits almost invisibly at the dropout and makes toothed belt replacement possible, while integrated motor connector, integrated seat clamp, smoothed welds and internal cable routing make every visible line unnecessary. At the front, a hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered shaft, internal cable routing, post mount mount and 15 mm through-axle continues the approach, crowned by an Acros ICR headset of 1.5 inches.

In the bottom bracket works a Pinion C-Line gear unit, developed by former Porsche engineers. Instead of planning gear changes in advance, you simply select them on the ride: six gears are available, shifted via gearwheels that engage delayed or immediately depending on load – as calmly at a zebra crossing as on a hill. In this six-speed version a 39-tooth front sprocket works at the front, a 34-tooth sprocket at the rear, connected by a 118T toothed belt from Gates Carbon Drive CDX; the nine-gear version uses 28 teeth and a 115T belt. Pinion supplies inner bearing and crankset at the same time, all from a single source. The belt's advantage lies in service life: according to Schindelhauer, it lasts three to four times as many kilometres as a chain, works at the same efficiency and needs neither oil nor grease.

Mahle provides the propulsion with the X20 series: the hub drive sits in the rear wheel as a hub motor, delivers 250 W and 55 Nm of torque and connects directly into the wheel via a 12 mm through-axle. The Intube battery of around 250 Wh disappears into the down tube, control sits as a head unit in the top tube – Bluetooth and ANT+ are built in, and assistance can be selected in several levels. Support extends to 25 km/h without cancelling out pedal power. Because frame, fork, handlebar and seat post take up every component, only the control button remains visible from outside.

For weather and everyday use, this bike is fully equipped. Curana Dlite mudguards are fitted as standard and keep rain and road dirt away from tyres and down tube. The LightSKIN lighting system, the smallest StVZO-compliant solution in the range, sits in the riser handlebar as headlight and in the seat post as rear light; the battery supplies both. The package is completed by the Brooks B17 saddle with chromed frame, Schindelhauer ergo leather grips, the Satori Stealth aluminium stem and CNC-machined urban pedals. Schindelhauer StraightPull high-flange hubs at the front, the StraightPull hub motor of the X20, Kinlin TL23R rims and Sapim Race spokes laced 3-cross and 2-cross provide shared stiffness for wheel and drive; Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors brake predictably even in rain, and Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622 roll quietly. A rear rack mount is provided for luggage, as are kickstand mount and points for bottle and lock holder. Weight is 15.7 kg in size M, system weight 130 kg.

Breaking down the name ARTHUR VI X20 in cream white

Four pieces of information sit in this designation. ARTHUR is the range; internally it is called the avant-gardist and means a bicycle that is electrically assisted without the drive being visible from outside. VI counts the gears of the Pinion C-Line – six, while IX offers nine and thus allows narrower steps. X20 stands for the electric generation from Mahle with hub drive, Intube battery and head unit in the top tube, and sets it apart from the X35. Cream white is the colour designation that follows the model in dealer naming; the frame shape is not carried along, because all models of the range are built on the same line. The frame heights S at 53 cm, M at 57 cm and L at 61 cm allow adaptation to different body sizes without altering proportions.

Comparison with the other models

The range is sorted by three criteria: gearing, electric system and riding character. Compared with the ARTHUR IX X20 with identical X20 electrics, the gear unit decides – six gears with 34 teeth and 118T belt face nine gears with 28 teeth and 115T belt, that is finer steps and more reserves on the IX. Compared with the singlespeed versions X35 at around 40 Nm and X20 SSP at 55 Nm, which focus on maximum lightness and direct drive and put 13.4 kg on the scales, this bike comes with 15.7 kg and six gears: the Pinion drive weighs more than the rigid drive, but relieves crankset and pedals and makes shifting a matter of course. Compared with the ARTHUR Cruiser in 47er tyres, riser handlebar and front basket, this configuration remains sporty-comfortable. In colour, cream white and midnight blue complement each other on the geared models, graphite black and garnet red on the singlespeed versions.

What this bike is designed for in everyday life

The appeal of this configuration lies in the interplay: six gears allow a suitable ratio when the terrain changes, electric assistance smooths starting off and gradients, and the belt tolerates pauses, dirt and varying loads without any chain replacement being necessary. With mudguards and light in the cockpit and seat post, the bike is ready for daily use and not only in good weather. Set against a commuter with just one gear, it is the solution for everyone who plans weekend tours, shopping trips and outings into the surrounding area with the same machine – and set against models with more gears, the simpler variant, whose only drawback is fewer gear steps.

A female counterpart exists as well: the ANTONIA range carries the same VI and IX pairings of Pinion gear unit and Mahle drive, yet is built as a step-through with a lowered top tube and an additional XS frame. Anyone preferring an upright posture therefore chooses between two frame silhouettes – a diamond frame for a sporty-classic seat and a lowered entry for relaxed arrival – with identical technology at whichever level of specification is chosen.
