Enable Youtube videosAt the heart of the ARTHUR VI X35 sits a triple-butted aero-shaped tubeset made from AL6061-T6. This aluminium is solution-treated, quenched and then artificially aged, which makes it particularly hard, tensile and fatigue-resistant. A forged bottom bracket shell and forged dropouts take the highest loads, the sliding dropout system fine-tunes belt tension and the belt port opens the frame for the drive. Cables routed inside, an integrated seat clamp and smoothed welds keep the silhouette calm and the aerodynamic drag low. A hydroformed tapered aluminium fork with15 mm through-axle and post mount brake mount completes the front end, matched to an Acros ICR headset.
The drive comes from a Pinion C-Line gear unit in the bottom bracket – in this configuration the six-speed XR version with an extended ratio spread. Pinion also supplies the inner bearing and crankset, while the Schindelhauer urban pedals are CNC-machined aluminium. Power reaches the wheel through a Gates Carbon Drive CDX: 39 teeth at the front, 34 or 28 at the rear and a toothed belt of 118T or 115T. Because the gear unit sits inside the bottom bracket and works in a sealed housing, gear jumps succeed even at traffic lights, and the carbon belt stays quiet, needs no lubricant and keeps the drivetrain clean. In stop-and-go traffic and on longer climbs this combination makes the difference.
The electric side stays completely in the background: the Mahle ebikemotion Hub Drive M1 is housed in the rear hub, acts directly on the wheel and delivers 250 W with 40 Nm up to 25 km/h. The Intube battery of around 250 Wh disappears invisibly into the down tube. Control runs through the iWoc ONE with Bluetooth and ANT+, which makes assistance levels, speed, range and battery level readable on the top tube or available via the app. A hub motor works correspondingly quietly and with low wear, because the wheel itself is driven directly.
Only the lighting reveals this concept on the surface: the LightSKIN WIEN lamp is integrated seamlessly into the handlebar, the rear light likewise into the seat post, both StVZO-compliant and powered from the battery. Added to that are the high-flange front hub with disc mount, eyeleted Alexrims CXD26 rims, Sapim Race spokes laced 3-cross and 1-cross and Shimano Alfine hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors that bite predictably in the rain. For tours and daily use, a Brooks B17 saddle with chromed frame, Schindelhauer ergo leather grips and Curana CLite mudguards round off the package, while rear rack, kickstand mount, bottle cage and lock fitting prepare the bike for longer routes. Weight is 15.7 or 15.9 kg in size M, with an approved system weight of 130 kg.
The urban ranges of this manufacturer deliberately carry first names, because a proper name conveys the attitude of a bike. ARTHUR represents this line, guided in-house as the avant-gardist: a machine that feels electric yet visually presents itself like a classic pedal sportster. “VI” is a Roman numeral counting the gears of the installed Pinion C-Line; the nine-speed edition of the same range carries “IX”. “X35” designates the drive generation used, meaning the Mahle system with Hub Drive M1 and Intube battery. The colour name Midnight Blue describes this concrete configuration and is listed separately in dealer naming.
The gear count is the decisive difference: six shifted speeds live in the bottom bracket here, while the IX versions carry nine, which provides finer tuning on gradients and long ascents. Frame, belt, wheels and lighting technology are identical across both, so the switch affects only the breadth of gearing. Compared with the singlespeed edition, the six-speed gear unit brings real flexibility while the light Pinion crankset keeps the weight down. The X20 versions rely on the newer drive generation from manufacturer Mahle and add more torque plus freely selectable assistance levels. A different character is pursued by the ARTHUR Cruiser with wide tyres, a strongly swept-back handlebar, a front basket and a single gear – it is built for relaxed cruising. In colour, this bike comes in Midnight Blue, while the sibling models are available in cream white, garnet red and graphite black among others.
The VI X35 addresses everyone who wants to ride sporty and agile through city traffic while relying on electric reserve – commutes, shopping trips and leisure loops around town. The six-speed gear hub covers exactly that range: flat inner-city routes as calmly as tours out into the surrounding area. Within the programme it is the configuration for riders who seek the variety of a gear unit and at the same time a deliberately light bike with moderate torque. Set against the Emil and Emilia family, which enters the stage with a more upright seating position and a comfort-focused character, this line appears sportier and more direct.
A female counterpart exists as well: ANTONIA carries the same VI and IX combinations of Pinion gear unit and Mahle drive, yet is built as a step-through with a lowered top tube and an additional XS frame. The same technology is therefore available in two frame silhouettes – a diamond frame for a sporty-classic seat position and a lowered entry for an upright, relaxed posture.
