DSX is Marin's code for the flat-bar gravel line, developed on the basis of the Gestalt X geometry. The number 2 marks the middle equipment tier within this range – between the entry-level DSX 1 and the top-spec DSX 3. The colour name Clay Orange describes the muted, earthy orange tone of the paintwork, reminiscent of dried clay. The manufacturer's name contributes nothing to decoding the model designation.
The DSX 2 occupies the middle position within the DSX range and is best placed by its 1x12 drivetrain from Shimano Deore, while the DSX 1 runs eleven gears and the DSX 3 relies on SRAM Apex. It shares the tubeless-ready rims and the full-carbon fork with the DSX 3, whose fork on the DSX 2 also comes with extra mounting points for bikepacking gear – a detail that sets it apart from the cheaper DSX 1, whose wheels are not tubeless-prepared. Like all rigid DSX models, the DSX 2 also does without a suspension fork, which only the DSX FS brings along.
The DSX 2 is aimed at everyone looking for a gravel bike for everyday rides and adventures: with the flat bar, the 1x12 Deore drivetrain, the 45 mm wide WTB Riddler tyres and the Shimano disc brakes, it masters commutes, gravel roads and light trails alike. The bikepacking mounts on the carbon fork make it an ideal companion for multi-day trips with luggage to boot. While the DSX 1 scores as a pure entry point and the DSX FS with suspension fork appeals more to the mountain biker, the DSX 2 offers the best compromise of versatility and price – and sets itself apart from the drop-bar Gestalt by keeping the relaxed, upright hand position.
