The Aviolo 8.1 is a top-of-the-range touring bike with a lightweight aluminium frame, comfortable geometry and magnesium air suspension fork (60 mm). The Shimano CUES 2x11 gear system offers a wide range of gears, Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency tyres provide puncture protection and Tektro hydraulic brakes deliver controlled deceleration.
A versatile, top-of-the-range bike in an elegant Nordic Fade colour – ideal for city and touring use.
This bike is built expressly for starting off and getting off: The 6061 aluminium frame is shaped as an LT trapeze, with a top tube that drops low and clears the way over the front wheel. Anyone who gets on a train every day, waits at a traffic light or manoeuvres along narrow paths sets off here without slipping and without having to lift the bike. Technically, the design is still that of a long-distance machine: 142 mm O.L.D., internal cable routing, BSA bottom bracket and postmount mounts for 160 mm rotors. At 16.4 kg the bike stays easy to handle in town, and the frame lengths XS, S and M cover the body sizes this shape is designed for. The deep blue Nordic Fade underlines the calm, reduced lines it radiates even while standing still.
The drivetrain of this bike is the most extensive the Aviolo series offers in this frame variant: The Shimano CUES U6000 works as a chain drivetrain with two chainrings and an 11-speed rear derailleur. The Hollowtech II FC-U6010-2 crankset delivers 46 and 32 teeth, the CS-LG400-11 cassette reaches from 11 to 45 teeth – 22 gears in total with 48 teeth of capacity. This range is the reason why the bike travels evenly over hairpin bends, crests and long straights: climbs are tackled calmly, descents use the gaps the 32 teeth provide. Front derailleur FD-U6010-LL3 and Shadow rear derailleur RD-U6020-11-SGS shift quickly and precisely, while the CN-LG500 LINKGLIDE chain keeps the connection smooth.
Suspension contributes decisively to making this a bike that stays pleasant over time: The SR Suntour NRX32IL-D air suspension fork offers 60 mm of travel, and because it works with air, it can be adjusted to your own weight and the firmness you prefer – more comfort than a steel spring in an otherwise identical design. Compared with the models featuring steel suspension such as the 6.1 and the 5.2, this difference is clearly noticeable, and it comes without any regular maintenance. The Tektro Volans hydraulic disc brakes with HD-T3520-F at the front and HD-T532-R at the rear brake via 180 mm Tektro TR180-45A rotors in centre-lock design with three-finger levers that work in a measured way even in the wet. On Oxygen Edge T26 rims in 26x622 ETRTO run 45-622 Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency Evolution tyres with V-Guard, ADDIX Race and reflective strips, completed by the Strummer RTP-1 hubs.
The bike is equipped for routes that last longer than one lap around the block: The Shutter Precision PL-6 hub dynamo supplies the Trelock Light Hammer 80 LED headlight with 80 lux and the B+M Xeltec Mini stand rear light, so visibility does not depend on a charged battery. The Racktime STV RC 04 luggage rack with SNAP IT 2.0 and QL3.1 is the real travel equipment: it carries pannier bags, side panniers and large bags, making both bikepacking and multi-day tours as well as the daily shopping trip possible. Curana Apollo 60 mudguards keep most of the water away in wet conditions, the STEVENS Edge kickstand with KSA 40 mount and the D85 bell round off everyday use, and the Scorpo Rise handlebar with 680 mm width, 9° backsweep and 25 mm rise, the Scorpo stem at 20°, the Selle Royal Vivo Ergo Royal saddle and the Scorpo seatpost with 10 mm offset provide a relaxed, upright seating position. With ATB Alu Pro Reflex pedals, a total weight limit of 140 kg and approval for child seats and trailers up to 40 kg or 80 kg with a trailer brake, it is prepared for almost any purpose.
“Aviolo" stands for the model series of the STEVENS travel and touring bikes, whose shared features are a lightweight aluminium frame, a suspension fork, hub dynamo lighting, a luggage rack and mudguards. The 8 names the equipment level and places the bike between the 6.1, 7.1 and 5.2 below and the 9.1 above. The 1 after the point indicates the type of drive: the Aviolo 1 models – 6.1, 7.1, 8.1 and 9.1 – work with a chain drivetrain, while the 5.2 rides with Gates belt drive and Shimano Nexus 8. “LT" means Low Tube and describes the trapeze frame with a clearly lowered top tube, the second frame shape of the 8.1 alongside the HT diamond frame. Nordic Fade is the colour designation, a deep blue.
Within the Aviolo series, the 8.1 occupies the elevated middle position: with 22 gears and 48 teeth of capacity it reaches the same range as the 9.1, which holds the top spot with CUES U8000, brakes from Shimano's own CUES family and 15.9 kg, while the 8.1 gets by with CUES U6000, Tektro Volans and 16.4 kg. Below that follow the 7.1 with 20 gears, the 6.1 with 18 gears and steel suspension, and the 5.2 with belt drive and Shimano Nexus 8. The difference between HT and LT lies solely in the frame: the HT version extends further with a 700 mm wide Scorpo Rise handlebar and the sizes XS to XXL, while the LT version arrives with 680 mm width and the sizes XS, S and M as the more compact, lower design. Fork, drivetrain, brakes and wheels are identical in both.
The purpose of this bike lies in the combination of travel fitness and everyday usability: the low step-through makes it easy to pull away at any traffic light and to get off in front of your own front door, while 22 gears, 180 mm disc brakes and 45 mm tyres provide safety and pace on longer routes. The air suspension fork is the part that decides over hours, because once it has been set to match, you stay relaxed even after a long day. Anyone who transports luggage uses the Racktime rack for pannier bags or bikepacking bags, anyone out in the evening benefits from 80 lux and the stand rear light, and anyone carrying children or a trailer finds the necessary approvals in place. Compared with the steel-suspension models it is the clearly more comfortable bike, and compared with the HT version it is the choice for everyone who prefers a low step-through to the larger size range.
