The name “Schwalbe” is the German translation of the original product name Swallow (English for “Schwalbe” – the bird). The founder Ralf Bohle imported tires from Korea in 1973 that were called Swallow there into Germany. Since Germany was one of the most important markets at the time, he chose the translation “Schwalbe” for the German market – a short and memorable brand name that evokes positive associations such as lightness, speed, movement, and good mood.
The Schwalbe brand was founded in 1922 in Bergneustadt and originally exported bicycle parts. From 1973 onward, the company focused exclusively on bicycle tires and tubes and launched high-quality tires under the name Schwalbe. Since then, Schwalbe has established itself as one of the leading tire manufacturers in Europe, known for innovation, quality, and a wide product range for different cycling and everyday applications.

The company name derives from the translation of the original Korean product name "Swallow", which means "Schwalbe" in German. Founder Ralf Bohle began importing tyres from Korea in 1973 that were sold under the name Swallow there. For the German market he chose the translated version "Schwalbe" – a short, memorable name that evokes lightness and speed. Since 1973 the company has focused exclusively on bicycle tyres and tubes and has grown into one of Europe's leading tyre manufacturers.
The very first product under the Schwalbe name was an imported bicycle tyre from Korea. Over time in-house developments followed, including the Marathon series for touring riders, the Rocket Rick series for mountain bikes and the G-One family for gravel bikes. The current range covers tyres for nearly every area of use from city bikes to road racing machines. Schwalbe introduced innovations such as Tubeless Easy Technology (TLE), RaceGuard puncture protection and the ADDIX rubber compound. The line-up was continuously expanded to include inner tubes and accessories.
Schwalbe products are sold in bicycle shops, sports chains and online stores in more than sixty countries worldwide. The exact number of sales outlets amounts to several thousand dealers. The company maintains sales offices in Europe, Asia and North America. The headquarters remain in Bergneustadt, where parts of the production and all development work are located.
Within the G-One gravel tyre range a choice can be made between different tread patterns and carcass levels. The models differ in knob design, puncture protection and rubber compound. The spectrum ranges from fast semi-slick tyres with low rolling resistance to aggressive offroad profiles with maximum traction. The tyres are available in widths from 40 to 50 millimetres and can be run tubeless thanks to TLE technology. The colour selection includes black and classic-skin sidewalls.
