Enable Youtube videosSporty, individual and innovative: this is how Schindelhauer sums up its city custom bicycle series – and the WILHELM IX P-LINE in raw aluminium is its minimalist flagship. The untreated AL6061-T6 frame with an aero-shape tube set and triple-butted tubes remains deliberately raw and honest, while inside a CNC-milled Pinion P-Line with nine gears relies on low-maintenance perfection. Here, the Berlin manufactory combines the matter-of-fact appearance of a factory machine with the top class among bicycle transmissions – a bicycle for everyone who takes city riding seriously and wants to do without unnecessary ornamentation.
With its central installation position, the Pinion unit keeps the bicycle in perfect balance; the nine evenly graduated gears with a total range of 364 per cent take you over almost any hill and every pedal stroke feels as direct as a singlespeed. Thanks to the Pinion principle, gears can also be shifted reliably while stationary. A low bottom bracket as well as long head tubes and top tubes create a sporty, yet tour-ready seating position. All cables are routed internally in the frame, preserving the purist appearance. The Gates Carbon belt (39 teeth at the front, 28 at the rear) drives the fine-toothed rear hub, while the hydraulic Shimano Alfine S7000 disc brake with 160-millimetre rotors provides responsive braking, even in the wet. The Brooks Swallow Classic saddle and the ergonomic Schindelhauer leather grips complete the comfort package. With a permissible total weight of 120 kilogrammes, mudguards, front and rear racks and optional lighting can easily be integrated into everyday life.
WILHELM stands for the individually configurable custom bicycle family, which is assembled entirely according to your own ideas. IX is the Roman nine and counts the gears of the gearbox. P-LINE names the CNC-milled gearbox line from Pinion that plays in the top class among bicycle transmissions. raw aluminium, in turn, describes the silvery bare, untreated aluminium surface that gives the frame its unmistakable, matter-of-fact appearance.
Both versions use the nine-gear Pinion technology, but differ in the gearbox line and equipment. The P-Line brings the CNC-milled gear unit designed for the highest demands, while the C-Line relies on the classic line. The saddle also shows the typical P-Line choice: the Brooks Swallow Classic replaces the B17 of the C-Line and gives the bicycle a fine, sporty seating note. In the raw aluminium paintwork, the WILHELM IX P-LINE appears deliberately reduced – an urban bicycle that convinces through character and technology rather than shining through colour.
The WILHELM IX P-LINE is the slim commuter for urban everyday life: compact in appearance, agile in the city and, thanks to the well-thought-out equipment, ideally prepared for the daily mixed traffic of street, cycle path and cobblestones. With mudguards, racks, lighting and the tour-ready seating position, the bicycle can be equipped either as a city sprinter or as a comfortable companion for the weekend ride, depending on your mood. Anyone who prefers to rely on material, form and riding feel instead of strong colours will find a stage in the raw aluminium Wilhelm that does without any surface decoration.
