With a practical, functional but reduced design, Gustav is an urban all-rounder built to make the lives of everyday commuters easier. A key design highlight is the built-in front rack with its clever strap system. The rack is attached to the head tube and won’t upset the balance as you steer around corners. We’ve also designed an extremely adaptable strap system for the rack, so you can be sure that anything from picnic baskets to parcels remain securely fastened. Even with heavier objects on board, Gustav glides effortlessly through the city streets and you can enjoy a smooth ride.

Enable Youtube videosIn this limited version Gustav carries a frame of AL6061-T6 aluminium built from triple-butted aero tubing, with smoothed welds giving the tube junctions a continuous, calm finish. Forged dropouts with the slider tensioning system and belt port hold the rear wheel precisely enough for the belt to keep its tension, while the mounting points for the frame-fixed rack are already part of the frame. Painted in moonlight rose – a delicate, pale pink – this structurally sober base suddenly appears in an outfit that catches the eye in any street.
Drive comes from a Gates Carbon Drive CDN with 46 teeth at the crank, 24 at the rear and a 115-link belt, and the power is laid down in a Shimano Nexus hub with eight gears. Flat sections, climbs with a loaded rack and tight city manoeuvres can each be ridden at a suitable resistance. Belt and hub run enclosed: no lubricant drips away, nothing needs re-adjusting, and the combination of THUN Zumba bottom bracket, Gates crank set and belt stays quiet and efficient over long distances.
A Shimano hub dynamo in the front wheel feeds the lighting – Curana ILU headlight at the front, ILU Jr. at the rear, both tucked neatly into the silhouette. Braking is handled by Tektro Spyre disc brakes whose force can be applied in fine increments, which proves especially valuable once the rack is loaded. Curana C-Lite mudguards keep spray off without interrupting the slim outline, and WTB Horizon tyres with reflective strips absorb bumps and throw light sideways. Together these parts add up to a bike of about 13 kg.
The rack concept is part of Gustav's basic idea: bolted to the frame, the steel rack stays calm while steering, and the VarioStraps adapt to the shape and size of the load, from groceries to parcels. Bottle and lock holders sit at their frame points, a child seat mounts on the seat tube and a trailer couples at the rear axle. Frame, belt drive, dynamo lighting and rack therefore merge into an everyday tool that works on Monday morning just as it does on a long weekend ride.
The name splits into three clearly separable parts. First Gustav: an old Germanic given name formed from "Gaut" (people, tribe) and "staba" (staff), at its core meaning something like "staff of the people" – a word root for support and steadfastness that joins the sequence of traditional first names carried by the models of this brand. Second Limited Edition: the English term for a production run confined to a limited number, signalling that this bike is built in small quantity only. Third moonlight rose: the colour designation, literally "moonlight rose", naming the delicate pink of the frame and giving the bike its unmistakable presence.
Gustav exists in several versions, and the Limited Edition differs clearly from the series variant in petrol and ash grey: it is painted in moonlight rose and comes with its own parts combination – Curana C-Lite mudguards, Curana ILU lighting front and rear, a frame-mounted steel rack with VarioStraps and Tektro Spyre disc brakes – adding up to roughly 13 kg. The limited Gustav Classic Edition, for its part, runs on a Shimano Alfine hub with polished silver components, a Brooks leather saddle with leather grips, mudguards painted in the frame colour and a LightSKIN headlight, individually engraved. Greta stands ready as the female counterpart: the same technology in a second frame shape with a low entry.
Its ground is everyday life: the commute, shopping, family errands and extended loops. The geometry with a longer head tube and compact stem places the upper body in an upright, relaxed posture, the high-volume tyres make cobbles and park paths the preferred shortcut, and hub lighting plus mudguards keep the bike ready in any season. With front rack, child seat and trailer options, the Limited Edition also grows from a commuter into a family and cargo bike.
Against the other ranges of the same maker this is the version deliberately built around comfort and use: Siegfried and Viktor follow purism with a single gear and a sporty stance, Ludwig brings Alfine-hub versatility to a sporty classic, Friedrich leans on comfort parts such as the Brooks saddle and Tubus rack, Wilhelm sits in the well-equipped touring and gearbox segment, and the e-bike ranges supply electric drive. Gustav, by contrast, delivers belt drive, eight gears, dynamo lighting and a rack from the factory – and the Limited Edition coats that proven formula in a now rare moonlight rose.
