The Schindelhauer Gustav impresses with its lightweight aluminium frame, practical front luggage rack and low-maintenance belt drive combined with reliable Shimano 8-speed gears. In this limited special edition, Gustav comes with silver-polished components, leather applications and LightSKIN U2 headlights. Each bike is individually numbered by engraving.
By mounting the front rack on the frame, the bike remains agile even when carrying heavier loads. An integral part of the rack design are the innovative VarioStraps, which can be individually adjusted to the size and shape of the load.

Enable Youtube videosThe Classic Edition frame is built from AL6061-T6 aluminium, drawn into triple-butted aero tubing and smoothly welded; forged dropouts with the slider belt tensioning system and belt port receive the rear wheel so that the belt stays under correct tension permanently. Midnight blue – a deep, almost black blue – forms the base colour, while silver-polished components break through the picture as bright accents. The mounting points for the frame-fixed front rack are already part of the frame.
Force is created at the Shimano Alfine Hollowtech II crank set and carried through the Gates Carbon Drive CDN – 46 teeth at the front, 24 at the rear, a 115-link belt – to a Shimano Alfine hub with eight gears. The eight ratios cover everything from a brisk start to steady cruising, and the bottom bracket sits in a Shimano BSA shell to round off the power transfer. Since belt and hub both run enclosed, the drivetrain stays out of mind most of the time: no lubricant dripping, no chain wanting to be cleaned.
Electricity comes from a Shutter Precision PL-8 hub dynamo in the wheel; on top of it, the LightSKIN U2 headlight shines at the front and the ILU jr. at the rear, both neatly integrated into the looks. Stopping is handled by a Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brake that builds pressure finely – behaviour that pays off once the rack is loaded. Curana Apollo aluminium-profile mudguards take up spray, WTB Horizon tyres with reflective strips absorb bumps and throw light sideways, while RYDE RIVAL rims with SAPIM spokes carry the whole thing steadily through daily life.
Comfort lies in the detail: the Brooks B17 leather saddle, Schindelhauer Ergo leather grips and CNC-machined aluminium pedals make every contact point soft and durable at once – leather that grows nicer with the years. Transport matters to Gustav just as much as comfort: a frame-mounted aluminium rack with VarioStraps, a Pletscher Twin kickstand, holders for bottle and lock, a child seat on the seat tube and a trailer coupling at the rear axle. Every single bike of this edition is also individually numbered by engraving.
The name is built from three parts. Gustav is an old Germanic given name from "Gaut" (people, tribe) and "staba" (staff), at its core meaning something like "staff of the people" – an image of support and dependability, embedded in the sequence of traditional first names carried by the models of this brand. Classic Edition is the English term for a version that deliberately returns to classic, timeless materials and parts: leather, polished metal, craft details. And midnight blue names the colour of the frame: a blue so deep it turns almost black in shadow and gives the bike its evening, unhurried air.
Gustav comes in several interpretations, and the Classic Edition occupies the classical direction: it runs on a Shimano Alfine hub gear, an Alfine Hollowtech II crank set, a Shutter Precision hub dynamo and RYDE RIVAL rims, brakes via a Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brake and uses silver-polished components, a Brooks B17 leather saddle, Ergo leather grips and CNC pedals in midnight blue. The series versions in petrol and ash grey focus on purist everyday use with the Shimano Nexus hub, while the limited moonlight rose edition brings a light frame, Curana C-Lite mudguards, Curana ILU lighting and a steel rack. Greta stands ready as the counterpart: the same technology in a frame shape with a low entry.
The field of use is the same as any Gustav: the commute, shopping, family life and longer weekend loops. The geometry with a long head tube and compact stem sets the upper body upright and relaxed, the high-volume tyres turn cobbles into the preferred shortcut, and hub lighting plus mudguards keep the bike ready in any season. Brooks saddle and leather grips further ensure that long stages stay pleasant, while front rack, child seat and trailer options turn the bike into a family and cargo vehicle.
