Comfortable, functional, and featuring a minimalist design, Emil is a fully equipped e-bike with all the advantages of an all-rounder and state-of-the-art 9-speed Pinion gearbox. The inconspicuous 250-watt motor integrated into the rear wheel hub and the 250Wh battery located in the down tube offer enduring riding pleasure thanks to reliable components from Mahle.
Cobblestone streets and rough park paths become your new favorite shortcuts thanks to the large-volume tires. The Gates Carbon Drive belt allows for three to four times the mileage of a chain – with the same efficiency, but less maintenance and noise. Oiling and greasing are a thing of the past, as are dirty pants legs.
The frame consists of triple-butted AL6061-T6 aluminium in an aero tube set, with forged Pinion bridge, forged dropouts including sliding tensioner system and Schindelhauer belt port. Smoothed welds, internal cable routing and bolt-on points for the frame-mounted rack keep the silhouette calm and clean. A longer head tube, the shorter Satori Stealth aluminium stem and the Acros ICR 1.5-inch headset add up to an upright, comfortable seating position with precise steering. The hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered head tube, internal cable routing, post mount brake mount and 15 mm through-axle is matched to this concept.
The Pinion C-Line gearbox with nine gears, developed by former Porsche engineers, works sequentially in the bottom bracket and delivers precise gear changes at standstill as well as while riding. Its spread of 568 percent covers flat city routes just as well as long climbs towards the outskirts and surrounding countryside. Because the gearbox sits directly in the chain of power, the rear wheel stays calm and the bearings are spared. Drive force is transmitted by a Gates Carbon Drive CDX toothed belt with 39 teeth at the front and 34/28 teeth at the rear, which lasts three to four times as long as a chain with its 118 and 115 teeth – at the same efficiency, with less maintenance and a clean running result. Pinion bottom bracket, Pinion crankset and VP plastic pedals with grip tape and industrial bearings round off the drivetrain.
Drive comes from the Mahle ebikemotion hub drive M1, integrated inconspicuously into the rear wheel hub, with 250 watts, 40 Nm of torque and support up to 25 km/h. The Intube battery with around 250 Wh sits invisibly in the down tube and is controlled by a single button on the top tube, via app or through the iWoc ONE with Bluetooth and ANT+. Visibility is provided by the LightSKIN Ultra-Mini-Light U2E and the ILU jr., both StVZO-approved and powered directly from the battery. With 150 lumens, the front light is the smallest StVZO-approved bicycle light in the world and sits flatly integrated in the Curana Apollo mudguard made of aluminium profile.
The 47 mm WTB Horizon tyres on 27.5-inch Alexrims DP23 rims with reflective strip absorb cobblestones and park paths, while the Sapim spokes with three-fold and one-fold lacing ride quietly and stiffly. Hydraulic Shimano MT200 disc brakes with 160 mm rotors deliver reliable deceleration in the wet and when loaded. Schindelhauer CITY handlebar, grips, seatpost and saddle, together with the upright geometry, form a coherent overall package of comfort, control and reduced design.
The frame-mounted aluminium front rack with VarioStrap tensioning system is the centrepiece of everyday practicality: it holds luggage pieces of any shape securely, stays without influence on the handling even with larger loads and is prepared for Ortlieb Rack-Lock – making the bike ready for weekend trips, multi-day tours and spontaneous bikepacking adventures. Added to this are the Curana Apollo mudguards, the option of a kickstand, holders for bottle and lock as well as the possibility of fitting a frame lock. The total weight rating of 130 kg leaves plenty of room for shopping and luggage.
“Emil” stands as the male model name for the diamond frame version of the range, while “Emilia” realises the same drive and the same equipment on a trapezoid frame with low entry. “IX” is the Roman nine and points to the nine gears of the Pinion C-Line gear unit; the six-speed edition correspondingly carries VI. “X35” identifies the generation of the electric drive from Mahle ebikemotion with 250 watts and 40 Newton metres, while the successor generation X20 runs with 55 Newton metres. “S (45cm)” refers to the frame size and “mineralgrau” to the colour. Taken together, this yields the fully equipped nine-speed edition in the smaller frame size, which is also available as M (50cm).
The EMIL IX X35 combines the largest shifting span of the electric line-up with the classic frame version. Compared to the six-speed model of the range, the nine-speed gear unit offers 568 instead of 295 percent spread – the choice for everyone who rides not only through the city but also over hills, river meadows and longer climbs into the surrounding countryside. The weight sits at 17.9 kg, just above the 17.6 kg of the six-speed version.
Technically the EMIL matches the EMILIA exactly: identical frame construction, identical Pinion gearbox, identical wheels, brakes, lighting, mudguards and rack. The difference lies only in the looks and in the rise of the top tube: the diamond frame gives a sportier posture, the trapezoid frame of the EMILIA a lower entry. Compared to the X20 generation, the X35 models work with 40 instead of 55 Newton metres and rely on Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes and 47 mm WTB Horizon tyres, while the X20 specification features 50 mm Continental Contact Urban, Kinlin TL23R rims and a Selle Royal Essenza. In terms of colour, the generation is clearly separated: mineral grey and sage green define the X35 versions, while the X20 models are available in mineral grey, midnight green and lavender blue.
The EMIL IX is aimed at everyone who wants to ride a diamond frame with full electric equipment and who is not put off by inclines, headwind and long ways home. Nine gears provide the necessary reserve, the 250 Wh are enough for the complete commute in stop-and-go traffic, and the upright seating position with longer head tube and shorter stem keeps even higher mileages pleasant. This combines the range of a tourer with the carefree convenience of a fully equipped commuter.
Within the range, Emilia with trapezoid frame is the female counterpart in sizes S, M and L; beyond that, the Schindelhauer programme includes Gustav and Greta as classic city bikes with Nexus hub gears, Arthur and Antonia as minimalist e-bikes with Mahle drive, Ludwig and Lotte as high-quality all-rounders with Alfine gear, Wilhelm as the gravel bike for terrain and tour, Siegfried and Hektor as two purist singlespeed models, Cato as the track bike and Neo as the compact 20-inch folding bike. Within this breadth, the EMIL IX X35 is the recommendation for everyone who wants to combine maximum gear range, comfort and equipment within the electric line-up.
