Schindelhauer EMIL IX X20 / mitternachtsgrün L (55cm) | mitternachtsgrün | Mahle X20 / 9-Gang Pinion 1

Comfortable, functional, and featuring a minimalist design, Emil is a fully equipped e-bike with all the advantages of an all-rounder and state-of-the-art 9-speed Pinion gearbox. Thanks to the adapted Schindelhauer frame geometry with a longer head tube and shorter stem, this motorized bike offers a very comfortable riding position.

Cobblestone streets and rough park paths become your new favorite shortcuts thanks to the large-volume tires. The Gates Carbon Drive belt allows for three to four times the mileage of a chain—with the same efficiency but less maintenance and noise. Oiling and greasing are a thing of the past, as are dirty pants legs.

Schindelhauer EMIL IX X20 in Midnight Green: The e-bike with 9 gears and 55 Nm

The frame is made of triple-butted AL6061-T6 aluminium, formed into an aero tube set and equipped with a forged bottom bracket shell, forged dropouts including the sliding tensioner system and the Schindelhauer belt port. Integrated motor plug, integrated seatpost clamp, smoothed welds and internal cable routing keep the surface flawless and the design line of the brand reduced. In midnight green, the diamond frame appears calm and deep, monochrome down to the smallest detail. A longer head tube and the shorter Satori Stealth aluminium stem, together with the Acros ICR 1.5-inch headset, provide a comfortable, upright seating position. The hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered head tube, internal cable routing, post mount brake mount and 15 mm through-axle fits neatly into the design, and the frame geometry stays comfortable even over long stages. At 18.6 kg the bike remains manageable and the frame is available in S (45 cm), M (50 cm) and L (55 cm).

The Pinion C-Line gear unit with nine gears, developed by former Porsche engineers, works sequentially in the bottom bracket and shifts precisely both at standstill and while riding. Its spread of 568 percent covers flat city rides and steep climbs alike and translates every gradient into a comfortable cadence. Because the gearbox sits immediately in the chain of power, the rear wheel stays calm and the bearings are spared. A Gates Carbon Drive CDX toothed belt with 39 teeth at the front, 34/28 teeth at the rear and 118 or 115 teeth transmits the drive force – three to four times the service life of a chain at the same efficiency, with less maintenance and no oil or grease. Pinion bottom bracket, Pinion crankset and VP plastic pedals with grip tape and industrial bearings complete the drivetrain.

With 250 watts, 55 Nm of torque and support up to 25 km/h, the Mahle X20 hub drive delivers the highest torque in the range. The X20 Intube battery with around 250 Wh sits invisibly in the down tube and is controlled via the Mahle X20 head unit in the top tube with Bluetooth and ANT+ or through an app. The motor is integrated into the rear wheel hub via a 12 mm through-axle, while the front wheel uses a straight-pull hub with disc mount. 55 Nm provide decisive pull-away and reserve on every incline.

On 27.5-inch Kinlin TL23R rims with Sapim race spokes and three-fold and two-fold lacing run 50 mm wide Continental Contact Urban tyres with reflective strip. The high-volume tyres absorb cobblestones and park paths and give confidence on wet roads. Hydraulic Shimano MT200 disc brakes with 160 mm rotors deliver reliable deceleration. Schindelhauer CITY handlebar, grips and seatpost as well as the Selle Royal Essenza moderate saddle form a comfort-oriented specification that comes together neatly with the calm colouring.

The lighting consists of the LightSKIN Ultra-Mini-Light U2E at the front and the ILU jr. at the rear, both StVZO-approved and powered directly from the battery. With 150 lumens, the front light is the smallest StVZO-approved bicycle light in the world and is integrated flat into the Curana Apollo mudguard made of aluminium profile, while the rear light sits just as discreetly in the mudguard skirt. The frame-mounted aluminium front rack with VarioStrap tensioning system holds luggage pieces of any shape securely and leaves the handling unchanged even with larger loads – the basis for weekend trips, multi-day tours and spontaneous bikepacking adventures. Added to this are the option of a kickstand, holders for bottle and lock as well as the possibility of fitting a frame lock. The total weight rating of 130 kg leaves plenty of room for shopping and luggage.

Where the designation EMIL IX X20 comes from

“Emil” is the male model name and stands for the diamond frame, while “Emilia” forms the female counterpart with trapezoid frame and low step-through. “IX” is the Roman nine for the nine gears of the Pinion C-Line gear unit with 568 percent spread; the six-speed edition carries the designation VI. “X20” names the generation of the electric drive from Mahle with 250 watts, 55 Newton metres and the head unit in the top tube – the lighter X35 generation works with 40 Newton metres. “S (45cm)” refers to the frame size and “mitternachtsgrün” to the colour. Together, this yields a fully equipped combination of diamond frame, highest torque, nine gears and a wide spread.

How the EMIL IX X20 stands apart from the other models in the range

The EMIL IX X20 is the most comprehensive variant in the range: highest torque, nine gears and the widest spread. Compared to the VI gearbox with 295 percent, 568 percent are available – this way even the steepest climb is driven evenly and quietly. Compared with the X35 generation, the differences are clear: 55 instead of 40 Newton metres, 50 mm Continental Contact Urban tyres on Kinlin TL23R rims instead of 47 mm WTB Horizon on Alexrims DP23, a Selle Royal Essenza moderate saddle instead of the Schindelhauer saddle, the Mahle X20 head unit in the top tube instead of the iWoc ONE as well as a forged bottom bracket shell instead of the forged Pinion bridge. Compared to the six-speed editions Emil VI and Emilia VI, the bike is around 300 grams heavier, but offers three additional gears for long tours and changing gradients. In terms of colour, the X20 generation is broader: midnight green, mineral grey and lavender blue are available, while the X35 versions appear in sage green and mineral grey.

Who this e-bike was built for

The EMIL IX X20 is aimed at everyone who is looking for a diamond frame, full equipment and the highest torque in the range, and who wants to benefit from nine gears with a wide spread. For commute routes, long journeys to work and multi-day tours with luggage, the combination of 55 Nm, 250 Wh and frame rack provides exactly the reserve that matters on the road: decisive pull-away, even climbing and a comfort position that still feels good after many hours. The 50 mm tyres absorb cobblestones, the StVZO lighting keeps routes safe in the evening and at night, and the 18.6 kilograms remain easy to handle despite the full equipment. The nine gears also allow a sportier riding style whenever the route invites it. The quiet running of gearbox and belt drive makes every ride a calm affair – from after work to multi-day trips.

Emilia with trapezoid frame and low step-through is the female counterpart; beyond that, the Schindelhauer programme includes Gustav and Greta as classic city bikes with Nexus hub gears, Arthur and Antonia as minimalist e-bikes with Mahle drive, Ludwig and Lotte as high-quality all-rounders with Alfine gear, Wilhelm as the gravel bike for terrain and tour, Siegfried and Hektor as two purist singlespeed models, Cato as the track bike and Neo as the compact 20-inch folding bike. The EMIL IX X20 is thus the most comprehensive electric line-up variant of the range: fully equipped, comfortable and with full drive reserve.
