The Marin Gestalt Blue is the most affordable entry-level bike in the Gestalt range, built around a Series 2 aluminium frame in glossy blue. Powered by a Shimano Claris 2x8 drivetrain with 16 gears and braked by mechanical Tektro disc brakes, it is an all-terrain explorer bike that rides reliably on both asphalt and gravel. With 36 mm wide WTB Exposure tires and numerous high-quality components from the same brand, it offers an outstanding value for money.
The model name carries a double meaning. On the one hand, "Gestalt" alludes to the design of the bicycle: the particular challenge lies in merging the sporty features of a road bike with the robustness of a mountain bike into a successful whole, both practically and visually – the design ideal of this gravel bike. On the other hand, the name comes from the "Gestalt Haus" in Fairfax, a popular cyclists' hangout known for its German beers, good food and even wall-mounted bicycle storage. This establishment was just a few minutes' walk from the product development manager's apartment when he designed the bike. That is how the designations of all the bikes in this range came about.
The full model name consists of two parts. As described, "Gestalt" refers to the design idea of the bike as well as to the historic hangout venue. The colour designation "Blue" simply names the glossy blue paint finish of the frame and serves to distinguish it from the identically equipped variant in black.
Within the Gestalt family, this blue model forms the most affordable base version and clearly stands apart from its more expensive siblings. While a Shimano Claris 2x8 with 16 gears and mechanical disc brakes, together with a Series 2 frame and aluminium fork, are used here, the higher-spec models feature more powerful equipment: the Gestalt 1 and Gestalt 2 use a Series 3 frame alongside a carbon fork, hydraulic disc brakes and 2x9 or 2x10 drivetrains respectively. There are also differences in the tires: this bike wears 36 mm wide WTB Exposure tires, whereas other Gestalt models come fitted with 40 mm wide tires. In terms of price, this variant sits at €1,099, below the other models of the range.
The Marin Gestalt Blue is aimed at beginners and budget-conscious riders looking for a single bike for mixed surfaces. It suits the daily commute, after-work rides and excursions beyond asphalt onto light gravel paths – in other words, bikepacking, touring and leisure adventures. Unlike the higher-spec models of the series, which are designed with carbon forks, hydraulic brakes and more gears for sportier and more demanding use, this bike prioritizes value for money and simple, robust technology. Compared with other models of the company from other ranges, this bicycle emphasises its character as an affordable, dependable everyday and entry-level all-rounder.
