Enable Youtube videosThe name harks back to the Marin Headlands coastal landscape, which became world-famous through its position at the mouth of the Golden Gate and is regarded as the cradle of the American gravel movement. With this model, the aim was to translate the riding experience of that place into a practical production bike.
“2021" states the model year this example was launched in. “Headlands" stands for the range, named after those famous hills. The “1" designates the entry stage, while “700C" specifies the wheel size and “Black" points to the black finish.
As one of the earliest members of the family, this bike rides the older yet prestigious GRX RX810 group in a 1x11 configuration with eleven gears. It neither offers Bear Box storage nor a dropper, but does bring the proven, powerful GRX hydraulic brake. In a sense it represents the historical starting point from which today's series was further developed.
Above all it serves as a dependable gravel all-rounder for beginners and occasional riders looking for a light carbon frame with mountain-bike-inspired riding position. Within the Headlands family it takes the role of the classic base model: no gimmicks, but a tried-and-tested drivetrain and honest versatility across tarmac, dirt roads and easy trails – precisely the qualities the series later expanded in every direction.
