Enable Youtube videosThe Flyer is a sprung touring saddle based on the classic Brooks saddle design. It combines the leather top of the B17 with additional rear springs and is available in two lengths: the Flyer Classic and the Flyer Short with a shorter nose. Both are handcrafted in England.
What sets the Flyer apart is its steel frame with springs. The rear springs add a further layer of suspension to the hammock-like leather top and are designed to increase comfort on tours. This is especially useful on long stages over changing road surfaces, when many hours are spent in the saddle. The suspension is of a classic design and is part of the saddle's construction. In return, the Flyer is heavier than an unsprung Brooks leather saddle at 860 g (Classic) and 800 g (Short), which rarely matters on loaded touring bikes.
The top is made of vegetable-tanned leather secured with tubular steel rivets to a black powder-coated steel rail. Leather is naturally breathable and adapts to the individual shape of the rider with increasing mileage, developing its own patina along the way. Brooks leather saddles are repairable, and after product registration Brooks England offers an extended 10-year guarantee.
The Classic measures 275 mm in length and 175 mm in width and weighs 860 g. It is the standard length for touring cyclists who want a sprung saddle with the classic Brooks shape.
The Flyer Short is a sprung touring saddle for women and smaller riders and features a shorter nose. It measures 242 mm in length, making it 33 mm shorter than the Classic, while keeping the same 175 mm width. At 800 g it is around 60 g lighter.
The Flyer combines the familiar Brooks leather with additional suspension for long tours. The Classic is the standard choice, the Short the right alternative for a smaller frame.
