The WILHELM GRAVEL Di2 is the Schindelhauer cross custom bicycle series for bikepacking and crossriding – and in the alu pur finish, its purist character comes into its own. The raw, seemingly untreated aluminium of the frame underlines the honest concept: no frills, just robust technology for mixed terrain. Driven by a low-maintenance carbon belt, shifted via the electronic Shimano Alfine Di2 hub gear with eleven gears – precise, fast and comfortable.

The base is the triple-butted AL6061-T6 frame with a weight-optimised aero-shape tube set and internal cable routing. Braking is handled by the hydraulic Shimano GRX brake on 160-millimetre discs, triggered via the GRX shift lever. The Brooks Cambium C17 saddle and Cambium bar tape provide comfort on long stages, and the Continental Terra Trail tyres run in the wide 40-622 dimension. At 11.6 kilogrammes, the gravel remains pleasantly light, while mountable mudguards and front and rear racks and optional lighting ensure everyday suitability. The permissible total weight is 120 kilogrammes.

What WILHELM, GRAVEL and Di2 stand for

WILHELM is the custom bicycle system from Schindelhauer, whose bicycles are built individually according to your wishes. GRAVEL describes the cross and bikepacking variant for routes between road and terrain. Di2 marks the electronic Shimano shifting, in which the Alfine hub gear is controlled via buttons – including precise shifts and a tidy cockpit. The colour addition alu pur stands for the metallic, silvery look of the untreated aluminium.

Why the concept suits crossriding

Off-road, robustness and low maintenance count – and here the GRAVEL shines twice over: the eleven gears sit protected in the hub and wear little, and shifting happens electronically at the push of a button, even under load. The Gates carbon belt does not get dirty and runs quietly; the low bottom bracket with long head and top tubes creates a sporty, yet tour-ready seating position. So on dusty paths and long days, the focus stays on riding.
