The WILHELM GRAVEL C-Line Smart.Shift is the electronic cross variant of the Schindelhauer custom line for bikepacking and crossriding. Its heart sits in the bottom bracket area: a 12-gear Pinion gearbox that shifts via Smart.Shift with just a light press on the button in 0.2 seconds – fast, silent and precise. In midnight blue, a deep, dark paintwork shows itself, giving the robust gravel concept a calm, noble touch.

The drive runs over the high-quality Gates carbon belt (39 teeth at the front, 28 at the rear); the riding feel is defined by the low bottom bracket and long head and top tubes. Braking is handled by the TRP HyWire disc brake on 160-millimetre discs, shifting via the HyWire lever. The Brooks Cambium C17 saddle with Cambium bar tape ensures comfort, and the Continental Terra Trail tyre grips confidently even on gravel. At 12.6 kilogrammes, the weight is higher thanks to the gearbox, while mountable mudguards, front and rear racks and optional lighting ensure everyday and tour suitability. The permissible total weight is 120 kilogrammes.

What WILHELM, GRAVEL and Smart.Shift stand for

WILHELM is the custom bicycle system from Schindelhauer, whose bicycles are built individually for you. GRAVEL names the cross and bikepacking variant for routes between road and terrain. Smart.Shift is the electronic shifting of the Pinion C-Line gearbox: gear changes happen at the touch of a button on the lever, including lightning-fast shifting. The dark blue of the frame edition called mitternachtsblau completes the appearance discreetly.

Why the electronic Pinion shifting delights

Where classic Wilhelms work with mechanical shift cables, the GRAVEL Smart.Shift shifts electronically – in 0.2 seconds and independent of the pedal position. The Pinion gearbox sits compactly in the bottom bracket area and shifts the centre of gravity downwards, which increases riding stability. Together with the low-maintenance Gates belt, this creates a drive that requires little care on long off-road tours and gives the rider maximum concentration on the ride.
