The cream-white Schindelhauer Urbanbike Ludwig weighs just 10.2 kg, making it very lightweight, and is well-equipped for touring and city riding thanks to its proven Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear system. This elegant and reliable bike features a low-maintenance Gates belt drive for a quiet, friction-free, and dynamic ride. The Brooks components complete its elegant, classic look.
The patented Schindelhauer Belt-Port system features a virtually invisible frame opening at the dropout—making belt replacement quick and easy.

Enable Youtube videosAluminium (AL6061-T6) in a triple-butted Aero-Shape tube set forms the backbone of LUDWIG XI and keeps the bike light and agile despite its high-quality equipment. Smoothed weld seams, the integrated seat clamp and internally routed cables create a clean silhouette, while the forged dropouts with their sliding tension system and the patented Belt Port hold the belt tension precisely and make changing the drive easy. The centrepiece is the Gates Carbon Drive CDX: the toothed belt runs quietly, cleanly and almost maintenance-free and pairs perfectly with the Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear. Eleven gears with a range of 409 percent cover every terrain – from flat city traffic to a hilly tour. Because the drive works without lubricant, trousers and frame stay permanently clean. The Alfine Hollowtech II crank with external bottom bracket bearings provides the stiffness a belt demands, and the Tektro R539 brakes with FL750 levers decelerate reliably. The Brooks B17 leather saddle, the hand-stitched Ergo leather grips and the aluminium Moon handlebar deliver comfort and an elegant look. The Continental Conti Contact Urban tyres with reflective stripes roll quickly and safely through the city. For everyday use, LUDWIG XI is versatile: front and rear racks can be fitted, mudguards find their place, a lighting system can be added, and a kickstand is possible via the Pletscher plate – even a child trailer can be attached using a coupling adapter. The maximum total weight of 120 kilograms makes the bike a robust companion for shopping, commuting and bikepacking weekends.
The model name is made up of three building blocks. LUDWIG is a traditional German first name that gives the bike a personal identity; it stands for the sporty classic that links everyday riding with weekend tours. The Roman numeral XI denotes the number eleven and thus the eleven gears of the fitted Alfine hub – it bundles the technical core of this version into a single sign. Sahneweiß, finally, describes the shade of the frame: a warm, creamy white that lends the reduced design a noble, calm feel.
Within the Ludwig line there are the versions LUDWIG VIII and LUDWIG XI. Both share the frame, belt, cockpit and Brooks equipment; the gearing makes the difference. LUDWIG VIII relies on the eight-speed Alfine hub, LUDWIG XI on the eleven-speed variant. Its range of 409 percent – compared with 307 percent for eight gears – spreads the ratios more finely and keeps the right gear available for longer on climbs, with luggage or against the wind. LUDWIG VIII is therefore the straightforward choice for flat city areas and short rides, while LUDWIG XI brings additional reserve for tours and hilly terrain. Anyone who loves the sporty character yet wants headroom for longer rides finds in LUDWIG XI the version with the wider gear spectrum.
LUDWIG XI is a versatile all-rounder for urban everyday life and weekend tours – commuting, shopping, day trips and light bikepacking included. Other series from the same house each serve their own focus: Siegfried stands for the purist classic reduced to the essentials, Wilhelm is the individually configurable custom line with Rohloff or Pinion technology, and the electrically assisted models such as Arthur or Hannah address everyone who wants a little support. The Frieda series, in turn, emphasises comfort and an upright riding position. LUDWIG XI finds its niche in between as a sporty, light belt-drive classic. As a frame-shape counterpart, Lotte stands alongside it: it carries the same idea into a more open, comfort-oriented frame form, so there is a suitable version for every riding style.
