Fresh bike in limited edition: Schindelhauer Frieda as a limited edition in the new color petrol. Only 150 available: Each bike is individually numbered by engraving. Comfortable and functional—Friedrich is the perfect bike for city and country.
Schindelhauer is a small Berlin-based manufacturer and is in high demand. Bikes that are available online are usually only in stock once. That's why we would advise you to act fast. If a particular bike is not in stock, simply ask us when it will be available again.
A frame that sounds like petrol and like a fresh colour edition, yet comes down to a single number: 150 examples, each engraved and numbered individually. The FRIEDA XI Limited Edition in petrol is a limited edition, not a serial colour model. Technically it corresponds to the XI in full – only its availability is different. The frame consists of AL6061-T6 aluminium with triple-butted aero tubes, forged dropouts with a slider belt tensioning system, an integrated seatpost clamp, internal cable routing and smooth welds.
Shifting happens through a Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear. Eleven gears spread the range between 46 and 24 teeth so finely that power deployment stays almost constant in every situation: pulling away in dense traffic, changing onto the long straight and climbing with luggage. The mechanism sits protected inside the rear wheel, every setting holds even at longer stops, and a glance at the gear indicator is enough. Eleven gears are not decoration here but the technical precondition for using one bicycle both in city traffic and over longer weekend routes.
Power transmission is taken care of by a Gates Carbon Drive CDX in CenterTrack geometry, with belts of 118 or 115 teeth and front sprockets of 50 or 46 teeth. Carbon fibres embedded in plastic work more efficiently than a steel chain, last a multiple of its service life and weigh around a fifth less. Because no lubricant circulates, the frame stays permanently clean. Belt tension is regulated by a slider system directly at the forged dropout, for which a dedicated belt port is provided in the frame.
Lighting is provided by the Shutter Precision PD-8X hub dynamo disc in the front wheel, coupled to a Supernova Pure3; a Supernova E3 handles the rear. Both lamps are integrated into the rims and do not disturb the deep petrol look. The advantage of this construction lies in its independence: visibility depends on speed rather than on a mains socket, and brightness stays constant even if the bicycle stood unused in a cellar for weeks.
The brakes of this Limited Edition are Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brakes with a 160 mm diameter. They work reliably regardless of wet weather and daily form and bite progressively when required – a sensible addition to a bicycle that, at 13,2 or 13,1 kg and a permissible total weight of 120 kg, should also travel safely with luggage. A curved aluminium fork with 15 mm thru-axle and flat-mount mount, a Satori Noirette Plus aluminium handlebar, Schindelhauer Ergo leather grips and the Brooks B17 saddle complete the equipment; the pedal is a CNC-milled Schindelhauer urban pedal in aluminium.
Equipped, the bicycle carries both everyday and the week: the custom Tubus Fly carrier takes bags, Curana D-Light mudguards keep off the rain, and the 35-622 Continental GP Urban Classic tyres roll comfortably over cobbles, asphalt and hard surfaces without turning sluggish in corners. The slightly elongated wheelbase gives the kickstand secure footing and creates space between heel and rear panniers. A mount for a bottle cage or lock is provided and the kickstand can be added. Radfieber classifies the model consistently in the Urban category – in diamond frame form and with frame sizes from 50 to 58 centimetres.
The first element is a proper name that the Berlin manufacturer gave its comfort-focused city bicycle and itself explained with the subtitle “the comfortable one”. No official account of the first name is given – and that is intentional, because the name is not a technical abbreviation but describes an attitude: upright rather than sporting, clear rather than tucked down, calm rather than hectic. Created as the feminine half of a deliberately chosen pair of models, the FRIEDA forms the counterpart to the male-named version with identical technology.
The Roman numeral behind it is the technical information: XI stands for eleven gears of the Alfine hub gear, and this numeral logic runs through the whole family – the eight-gear version correspondingly carries the VIII. The English addition Limited Edition finally describes not a technical feature but a condition: an edition limited to 150 pieces worldwide, each bicycle numbered individually. The element petrol names the surface – a deep, slightly greenish blue that appeared as a colour edition for Friedrich and Frieda in spring 2025 and plunges the frame into a calm, almost mystic mood. The name therefore denotes character, gear level, rarity and colour at once.
Compared with the regular FRIEDA XI there is exactly one difference, and it concerns not the technology but the quantity. Frame in AL6061-T6 with triple-butted aero tubes, Gates Carbon Drive CDX with CenterTrack geometry, Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear, Shutter Precision hub dynamo with Supernova lamps, Tubus Fly carrier, Curana mudguards, Satori Noirette Plus handlebar, Brooks B17 saddle and Shimano Alfine S7000 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm – all of that is identical in both. What differs is availability: the regular XI is part of the range in several colours for a longer period, while the petrol edition exists in exactly 150 engraved and numbered examples.
Compared with the also limited pearl blue edition, the petrol version differs solely in colour tone. Both share the same XI configuration, the same components and the same edition size of 150 pieces; the difference lies in the tone – pearl blue cooler and lighter, petrol deeper and slightly greenish. Anyone comparing both will find that the technology has not changed at all and that only the colour decision determines the character of the bicycle.
A male counterpart exists as well: the matching Friedrich carries the second name from the same pair and was likewise realised in petrol as a Limited Edition. A comparison therefore does not pit different concepts against each other, but two manifestations of the same idea – supplemented by the choice between eight and eleven gears and the question of which of the two special colours suits you better.
This FRIEDA XI Limited Edition in petrol is built for the way to work, for shopping rides through downtown, for appointments in the afternoon and for excursions at the weekend. Frame, belt, hub gear, mudguards and dynamo lighting work to the same beat: reliably in rain and dust, without months of maintenance effort, and light enough not to become a burden even when carried and stored. Added to this are the hydraulic disc brakes, which retain their full stopping power in wet conditions, and the permissible total weight of 120 kg, which leaves sufficient margin for luggage and shopping.
Within the manufacturer's portfolio the Frieda family occupies a clearly circumscribed technical position: belt drive and conventional hub gearing, placed at its foundation instead of a derailleur or a gear hub on the bottom bracket. Other series from the same house serve different expectations – city bikes with a gear hub, sportier track and singlespeed concepts, electrically assisted models with mid-drive. The Frieda family is the interpretation that places comfort, an upright seating position and quiet running above sporting performance; the XI is the most flexible version within this family.
In petrol a particular effect is added: the deep, slightly greenish blue lets the bicycle recede in a crowd and yet appears neither arbitrary nor casual. It forgives traces of use, preserves the contours of the frame and makes the light-coloured components and the upright seating position all the more visible. Because the edition is limited and every number is unique, an aspect of collecting is added that goes beyond pure function – and the engraving turns every bicycle into an individual piece that accompanies its owner unmistakably.
