Fresh bike in limited edition: Schindelhauer Frieda as a limited edition in the new color Pearl Blue. Only 150 available: Each bike is individually numbered by engraving. Comfortable and functional—Friedrich is the perfect bike for city and country.
Schindelhauer is a small Berlin-based manufacturer and is in high demand. Bikes that are available online are usually only in stock once. That's why we would advise you to act fast. If a particular bike is out of stock, just ask us when it will be available again.
Pearl blue, numbered and not to be had: the FRIEDA XI Limited Edition is limited to 150 examples, and every single bicycle carries its own number by engraving. Technically it corresponds fully to the XI; in terms of colour it is a one-off among the city bicycles of this manufacturer. The frame consists of AL6061-T6 aluminium, whose triple-butted Aero-Shape tube set gathers stiffness where torsion and longitudinal forces act as you pedal and saves material where the frame sits in shadow. Forged dropouts with a sliding tensioner, an integrated seatpost clamp, completely internal cable routing and smoothed welds complete the picture – backed by a five-year guarantee.
Shifting happens through a Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear. Eleven gears spread the range between 46 teeth at the front and 24 at the rear so finely that a short stretch lies between two shifting actions and power deployment stays constant in every situation – pulling away in traffic just as much as on a long climb with luggage. The entire mechanism sits protected inside the rear wheel, every setting holds even at longer stops, and the gear indicator on the handlebar shows the current state at any time. Eleven gears here are not equipment for the showroom, but the technical basis for a bicycle that carries both the city and weekend excursions equally well.
Power transmission is handled by a Gates Carbon Drive CDX with a 115-tooth belt in CenterTrack geometry. Carbon fibres in a plastic matrix work more efficiently than a steel chain, last a multiple of its service life and weigh about a fifth less. Because no lubricant is required, the frame stays permanently clean and trousers remain unmarked. Belt tension is regulated by a sliding mechanism directly at the forged dropout, for which a dedicated belt port is provided in the frame – one short pull and the belt sits correctly again.
The light is generated by the bicycle itself: a Supernova Pure3 sits in the front wheel at the Shutter Precision PD-8X hub dynamo, and a Supernova E3 handles the rear. Both lamps are integrated into the rims and do not disturb the pearl blue silhouette. The advantage lies in independence: visibility depends on speed rather than on a mains socket, and brightness stays constant even if the bicycle stood unused in a cellar for weeks.
The Limited Edition is equipped exactly as the series prescribes: the custom Tubus Fly carrier takes bags, Curana D-Light mudguards keep off the rain, and the 35-622 Continental GP Urban tyres roll comfortably over cobbles, asphalt and hard surfaces without turning sluggish in corners. The slightly elongated wheelbase gives the kickstand secure footing and creates space between heel and rear panniers. A mount for a bottle cage or lock is provided and the kickstand can be added. Mechanical disc brakes with a 160 mm diameter deliver reliable deceleration, complemented by the Brooks B17 S Lady saddle, Schindelhauer Ergo leather grips, the Schindelhauer Jane aluminium handlebar and a curved aluminium fork with 15 mm thru-axle. The weight of 13,2 kg nevertheless keeps this extensively equipped bicycle easy to move.
The first part is a proper name that the Berlin manufacturer gave its comfort-oriented city bicycle and itself explained with the subtitle “the comfortable one”. No official account of where the first name originates is given – that is intentional, because the name is not a technical abbreviation but describes an attitude: upright rather than sporting, clear rather than tucked down, calm rather than hectic. The FRIEDA emerged as the feminine half of a deliberately chosen pair of models whose male counterpart carries the same technical foundation.
The Roman numeral behind it is the technical information: XI stands for eleven gears of the Alfine hub gear, and this numeral logic applies across the entire family – the eight-gear version correspondingly carries the VIII. The English addition Limited Edition finally describes not a technical feature but a condition: an edition limited to 150 pieces worldwide, individually engraved and numbered. Taken together, the model name therefore denotes three things: the character of the bicycle, the gear level and the rarity of the specific edition. Pearl blue is the colour that makes this special status visible.
Compared with the regular FRIEDA XI there is exactly one difference, and it concerns not the bicycle but its availability: frame, drive and equipment are identical. Both share the same AL6061-T6 structure with triple-butted Aero-Shape tubes, the same Gates Carbon Drive CDX with 115-tooth belt, the same Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear, the same combination of Shutter Precision hub dynamo and Supernova lamps, the same Tubus Fly carrier, the same Curana mudguards, the same Brooks B17 S Lady saddle and the same mechanical disc brakes with 160 mm. Frame sizes from 50 to 58 centimetres correspond as well.
The difference lies in the edition. While the regular XI is available in several colours and over a longer period, the Limited Edition exists in pearl blue in exactly 150 examples, each engraved and numbered individually. Anyone who owns one of these bicycles therefore holds not only a particular bicycle but a piece of a closed series – which preserves value beyond everyday riding and permanently shapes the choice on the used market.
The petrol colour variant of the FRIEDA XI is also limited to 150 pieces as a Limited Edition and is technically identically equipped. It differs from pearl blue solely in colour – the same XI each time, once in a cool, light blue and once in a deep, slightly greenish petrol tone.
This FRIEDA XI Limited Edition is built for the way to work, for shopping rides through downtown, for appointments in the afternoon and for excursions at the weekend. Frame, belt, hub gear, mudguards and dynamo lighting work to the same beat: reliably in rain and dust, without months of maintenance effort, and light enough not to become a burden even when carried and stored. Radfieber therefore classifies it consistently in the Urban category – in diamond frame form.
Within the manufacturer's portfolio the Frieda family occupies a clearly circumscribed technical position: belt drive and conventional hub gearing, placed at its foundation instead of a derailleur or a gear hub on the bottom bracket. Other series from the same house serve different expectations – city bikes with a gear hub, sportier track and singlespeed concepts, electrically assisted models with mid-drive. The Frieda family is the interpretation that places comfort, an upright seating position and quiet running above sporting performance. Eleven gears make this the most flexible version of the series.
A male counterpart exists as well: the matching Friedrich carries the second name from the same pair and presents the same idea in a men's version. A comparison therefore does not pit different concepts against each other, but two manifestations of the same idea – supplemented by the choice between eight and eleven gears. In pearl blue a further aspect comes into play: the cool, light tone takes weight off the bicycle compared with darker finishes and brings the upright seating position and the fine lines of the frame more strongly to the fore. Because the edition is limited and every number is unique, an aspect of collecting is added that goes beyond pure function.
