A muted sage green makes the shapes of this frame appear calm and clear while setting accents in the details: heat-treated AL6061-T6, triple-butted in the Aero-Shape tube set, with generous wall thickness at the welds, a slim centre and solid stiffness in between. Forged bottom bracket shell, forged dropouts with slider tensioning system and Schindelhauer belt port, integrated seat clamp, smoothed welds and internal cable routing form the basis. A hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered steerer, 15 mm through-axle and post mount mount as well as the 1.5 inch Acros ICR headset complete the picture.

Shifting is handled by a Pinion C-Line gear unit in the bottom bracket with six mechanical steps that also run through while standing. The wide spacing between the gears makes starting off in city traffic pleasingly relaxed, and because every step is reached independently of pedalling, the change at the junction takes just seconds. The closed design inside the bottom bracket stays reliable even in rain and dirt, and its low position noticeably lowers the centre of gravity.

Power transmission is taken care of by a Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt with 115 teeth, 39 teeth at the front and 28 teeth at the rear. Belt port and slider tensioning system allow the tension to be set precisely and permanently. This results in around three to four times as many kilometres as with a chain at the same efficiency, while maintenance is limited to a few hand movements per year – and clothing stays clean.

The LightSkin integration takes care of visibility: the City handlebar houses the headlight, the seatpost the taillight. Both lights are StVZO-compliant, run off the e-bike battery and are therefore instantly ready to use at any time. The bike is thus a complete lighting system that works just as reliably while pedalling and at dusk.

Equipment for wind and weather: Curana CLite mudguards, a Satori Stealth stem made of aluminium and Schindelhauer ergo leather grips keep rides dry and calm, while the Brooks B17 S Lady saddle on a chromed rail provides a comfortable, upright seat. Shimano Alfine hydraulic brakes with 160 mm discs brake powerfully and with fine modulation. Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622 roll on Schindelhauer high-flange hubs with Sapim Race spokes and Alexrims CXD26 rims: calm on asphalt, grippy on cobbles and comfortable on cycle paths. The weight in size M is 15.7 or 15.9 kg, and the approved total weight is 130 kg.

The drivetrain is provided by the MAHLE ebikemotion HUB Drive M1 as a rear hub motor with 250 watts of power, 40 Nm of torque and support up to 25 km/h. The inTube battery with around 250 Wh is integrated in the down tube, and the iWOC ONE cockpit can be operated via the button on the top tube or over Bluetooth and ANT+ in the app. Because the assistance engages at the rear wheel only, the drivetrain stays free and the riding dynamics remain directly tangible at all times.

Everything is prepared for routes with luggage: bottle cage mounts, a lock mount, kickstand mounting and a rear rack attachment are provided, and the wide city tyres absorb edges and potholes. In combination with gearbox, belt and standard lighting, the result is a package that works reliably and needs little care even after weeks of full appointments.

Structure of the model designation: name, numeral, system, paint

This brand does not use technical type codes for its urban models but hands out first names – every bike thus has its own personality. “Antonia” is the name of this bike; together with “Arthur” it forms a deliberately chosen name pair in female and male form. “VI” is a Roman numeral and at the same time the gear count: it stands for six gears of the Pinion C-Line, while the sibling models IX and IX X20 appear with nine steps. “X35” stands for the motor generation, the MAHLE HUB Drive X35 with 40 Nm; the more powerful unit of the same family carries X20 for 55 Nm. “Sage green” names the colour, and the second paint of the series is called cream white.

Differences between the variants

Three degrees of freedom determine the equipment within the family: gear count, motor output and colour. Six larger steps as in this VI version make riding with few, deliberately chosen gears particularly clear-cut. Nine Pinion steps spread the ratios more evenly, which becomes noticeable on gradients, with frequent starts and loaded rear luggage; IX X20 combines the nine steps with 55 Nm. Frame sizes are available in XS at 48 cm for a body height of about 155 to 165 cm, S at 52 cm for about 165 to 175 cm and M at 56 cm for about 175 to 185 cm, complemented by the colours sage green and cream white.

The rest of the programme covers further needs: the gravel diamond frame is aimed at riders who take faster tours with sportier components, the Bosch models at gradients with high torque requirements, the Nexus series at an uncomplicated city machine and the singlespeed models at everyone who deliberately chooses a reduced drivetrain. The other urban models of this series share the same MAHLE HUB Drive X35 with 40 Nm, the Gates carbon belt and the LightSkin lighting system; they are distinguished by gear designation, motor designation, frame shape and colour.

Antonia versus Arthur: trapez frame against diamond frame

The male namesake Arthur differs above all in frame shape. The Antonia VI X35 uses a trapez frame, Arthur a diamond frame: on the trapez model the top tube slopes down towards the head tube, which lowers the standover height, makes mounting and dismounting in everyday clothing easier and creates a more upright, relaxed riding position – a clearly noticeable advantage when stops are frequent. The diamond frame in turn scores with a straight top tube and classic, sporty elegance.

Technically both model lines are identical: Pinion C-Line gear unit, Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt, MAHLE HUB Drive X35 with 250 watts and 40 Nm, LightSkin lighting system in handlebar and seatpost, Curana CLite mudguards, Shimano Alfine hydraulic brakes with 160 mm, Brooks B17 S Lady on a chromed rail, Alexrims CXD26 rims and Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622, at around 15.9 kg in size M. The distinction is therefore made by frame shape, colour and size, while equipment, drivetrain and weight remain the same.

The models also differ in sizes: the Antonia VI X35 and IX X35 are built in XS at 48 cm, S at 52 cm and M at 56 cm frame length, whereas Arthur is made in XS 50 cm, S 53 cm, M 57 cm and L 59 cm. This manufacturer generally does not split into men's and women's models – every trapez model has a diamond counterpart and vice versa, such as Emil alongside Emilia, Gustav alongside Greta, Ludwig alongside Lotte or Heinrich alongside Hannah. What counts is therefore the preferred riding position, not gender.

Anyone who wants to sit lower, to mount and dismount more often and to arrive in the city quietly and upright is well served with the Antonia VI X35. Anyone looking for the straight line of the top tube and the sporty character of the diamond frame is just as well served with the Arthur – at identical weight, identical drivetrain and identical equipment.

Range of use: commuting, shopping and tours with light luggage

This Antonia is built for the routes and weathers that actually occur in everyday life: integrated StVZO lighting, mudguards and belt drive make sure the bike is ready to roll at any time. The rigid, lightweight aluminium frame with trapez geometry, the 700C wheels and the Brooks saddle allow relaxed riding over longer distances, while the Pinion gearbox works economically on the flat and supports precisely on climbs. Via the rear rack attachment, luggage for day trips and weekend getaways can be carried.

The VI version thus covers exactly those cases in which six gears, 40 Nm and around 16 kg amount to the right mix of equipment and weight: on the daily commute, on shopping trips into town, on outings into the surrounding area and on every longer ride that takes place on asphalt and good cycle paths.
