Enable Youtube videosSage green is a deliberately unassuming colour: it wraps frame and fork into one calm unit and lets the technical details speak instead of shouting themselves. The frame is made from heat-treated AL6061-T6 in the triple-butted Aero-Shape tube set – thick at the welds for load capacity, thin inside the tube for weight saving, stiff in between for clean power development. A forged bottom bracket shell, forged dropouts with slider tensioning system and belt port, integrated seat clamp, smoothed welds and consistently internal cable routing keep the appearance free of distractions. A hydroformed aluminium fork with tapered steerer, 15 mm through-axle and post mount mount as well as the 1.5 inch Acros ICR headset complete the picture.
On the road the gearbox decides: the Pinion C-Line sits as a closed unit inside the bottom bracket and offers nine mechanical steps that also run through while standing. Nine steps mean short jumps between ratios – the bike pulls away calmly in the city and still finds the right gear on a climb. Because the unit sits dry and sealed, it stays fully functional after rain and dirt, and its low position relieves the centre of gravity. The XR alignment is matched to heavier loads and sportier use.
Coupling is done with a Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt: 115 teeth on the belt, 39 teeth at the front and 28 teeth at the rear. Belt port and slider tensioning system in the dropout keep the tension permanently adjustable. The calculated advantage: around three to four times as many kilometres as with a chain – at the same efficiency and with maintenance effort limited to a few hand movements per year, while clothing stays clean.
Lighting is part of the concept too: the LightSkin City handlebar carries the headlight, the LightSkin seatpost the taillight. Both lights are StVZO-compliant and draw their power from the e-bike battery, so they are ready to go at any time. While pedalling, the e-bike acts as a complete lighting system, equally reliable in the city and at dusk.
Weatherproof comfort is handled by the Curana CLite mudguards; cockpit and grip feel come from the Satori Stealth stem and Schindelhauer ergo leather grips, and the Brooks B17 S Lady saddle on a chromed rail sits softly. Shimano Alfine hydraulic brakes with 160 mm discs deliver powerful, controllable braking. Schindelhauer high-flange hubs and Sapim Race spokes carry Alexrims CXD26 rims with Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622 – calm on asphalt, safe on paving stones and grippy on light surfaces. In size M the bike weighs 15.7 or 15.9 kg, and 130 kg total weight are approved.
Assistance comes from the MAHLE ebikemotion HUB Drive M1 as a rear hub motor with 250 watts and 40 Nm and support up to 25 km/h. The inTube battery with around 250 Wh disappears completely into the down tube, controlled via the iWOC ONE cockpit from the button on the top tube or through the app over Bluetooth and ANT+. Since the power engages at the rear wheel only, the drivetrain stays unloaded and the riding feel remains natural even without assistance.
For trips with luggage the bike is prepared: bottle cage mounts, a lock mount, kickstand mounting and rear rack attachment are provided, and the wide city tyres dampen potholes and edges. With gearbox, belt and standard lighting, the result is a package that keeps running reliably and needs little care even after a full working day.
The urban model lines of this brand do without technical type codes and instead hand out first names – every bike thus gets its own personality. “Antonia” is the name of this bike and forms a deliberately chosen name pair with “Arthur” in female and male form. “IX” is a Roman numeral and at the same time the gear count: IX stands for nine gears in the Pinion C-Line, while the VI sibling brings six gears. “X35” names the fitted motor generation, the MAHLE HUB Drive X35 with 40 Nm of torque; the more powerful unit of the same family carries the code X20 for 55 Nm. “Sage green” finally stands for the paint, and the second colour of the series is called cream white.
Within the model family three degrees of freedom are open: the number of gears, the motor output and the colour. The IX version delivers nine Pinion steps and therefore distributes ratios more evenly across the entire range – a difference that becomes noticeable on gradients, in city traffic with frequent starts and when carrying luggage. The VI version works with six larger steps, IX X20 combines the nine steps with 55 Nm. Frame sizes XS at 48 cm, S at 52 cm and M at 56 cm frame length as well as the colours cream white and sage green complete the choice.
Beyond the drive variants, the programme includes other lines: the gravel diamond frame relies on sportier components for faster tours, the Bosch-driven e-bikes deliver even more torque for steep mountain routes, the Nexus models target the plain city machine and the singlespeeds the reduced solution for everyone who deliberately prefers a simple drivetrain.
The male namesake Arthur differs above all in frame shape. The Antonia IX X35 uses a trapez frame, Arthur a diamond frame: on the trapez model the top tube slopes down towards the head tube, which lowers the standover height, makes mounting and dismounting in everyday clothing easier and creates a more upright, relaxed riding position – a clearly noticeable advantage with frequent stop-and-go. The diamond frame in turn scores with a straight top tube and classic, sporty elegance.
Technically both model lines are identical: Pinion C-Line gear unit, Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt, MAHLE HUB Drive X35 with 250 watts and 40 Nm, LightSkin lighting system in handlebar and seatpost, Curana CLite mudguards, Shimano Alfine hydraulic brakes with 160 mm, Brooks B17 S Lady on a chromed rail, Alexrims CXD26 rims and Continental GP Urban Classic tyres in 35-622, at around 15.9 kg in size M. The distinction is therefore made by frame shape, colour and size, while equipment, drivetrain and weight remain the same.
The models also differ in sizes: the Antonia VI X35 and IX X35 are built in XS at 48 cm, S at 52 cm and M at 56 cm frame length, whereas Arthur is made in XS 50 cm, S 53 cm, M 57 cm and L 59 cm. This manufacturer generally does not split into men's and women's models – every trapez model has a diamond counterpart and vice versa, such as Emil alongside Emilia, Gustav alongside Greta, Ludwig alongside Lotte or Heinrich alongside Hannah. What counts is the preferred riding position, not gender.
Anyone who wants to sit lower, to mount and dismount more often and to arrive in the city quietly and upright is well served with the Antonia IX X35. Anyone looking for the straight line of the top tube and the sporty character of the diamond frame is just as well served with the Arthur – at identical weight, identical drivetrain and identical equipment.
This Antonia is built for the routes and weathers that actually occur in everyday life: integrated StVZO lighting, mudguards and belt drive make sure the bike is ready to roll at any time. The rigid, lightweight aluminium frame with trapez geometry, the 700C wheels and the Brooks saddle allow relaxed riding over longer distances, while the Pinion gearbox works economically on the flat and supports precisely on climbs with its nine steps. Via the rear rack attachment, luggage for day trips and weekend getaways can be carried.
The nine Pinion steps make this bike the universal choice for commuters and leisure cyclists alike: on the daily commute, on shopping trips into town, on outings into the surrounding area and on longer tours that take place on asphalt and good cycle paths.
