The Otinga brand was born from a simple yet brilliant idea by young cycling enthusiasts: how can a bicycle bag be designed so that it also works as a practical backpack? This vision emerged during a cycling trip in New Zealand, where the founders realized how important flexibility and clever luggage are when traveling—especially when switching between cycling and walking. Starting in 2018, they developed their first prototypes and gradually built their brand step by step. The name “Otinga” means “solution” in Maori—an expression of the core product idea: bicycle bags that solve real everyday problems. The brand combines thoughtful design with practical features: many models can be transformed from a pannier into a backpack in just a few seconds—perfect for commuters, everyday use, tours, and travel.
The bicycle bag brand Otinga was launched by a group of young cycling enthusiasts. The core idea emerged during a bike trip through New Zealand, when the founders realised how practical a bag would be that could be carried both on a rear rack and on the back. The first prototypes were created around 2018, and the brand grew step by step. The company name "Otinga" comes from the Maori language and means "solution" – a reference to the central concept of solving everyday transport problems through clever convertibility.
The very first product was a bike bag that could transform into a backpack within seconds. This concept was steadily refined with the Flip series. Over time variants such as the Shiny Flip V3 with an easy-clean surface and the Reflective Flip V3 with reflective materials joined the product family. The Shopper V2 2in1 was added as a lightweight shopping bag that can be rolled up compactly when not in use. All models share the principle of dual use as both a bicycle bag and a backpack.
Otinga products are sold in bicycle shops and online stores in several European countries. The exact size of the dealer network amounts to several dozen points of sale, with the focus on German-speaking regions. The brand's online presence together with sales through platforms such as Radfieber complement the physical retail channel. The number of outlets is growing steadily.
Within the Flip range three versions can be chosen: the standard edition, the version with reflective fabric and the variant with a particularly easy-to-clean glossy material. All three offer a volume of 26 to 34 litres, a removable organiser with a laptop compartment and a waterproof construction. The Shopper V2 2in1, on the other hand, is significantly more compact and lighter at 14 litres and 390 grams, yet can also be attached to the rear rack and used as a carry bag. The colour selection varies by model and includes black, blue, orange, green and purple among others.
