The Marin Headlands 1 offers bags of fun, adventure and performance without the loftier price point of the Headlands 2.
Gravel-specific Shimano GRX drivetrain with an FSA crankset, GRX hydraulic brakes, Vee Tire Co tires and Marin wheels and finishing kit all add up to a whole mountain of fun and adventure.

Enable Youtube videosThe Marin Headlands 1 brings genuine gravel character to the entry level. Its frame is made from Marin's Series 3 »Beyond Road» carbon and, together with the full-carbon fork, provides a light yet durable foundation. Propulsion comes from a mechanical Shimano GRX drivetrain with twelve speeds: the wide-ranging 10-51-tooth cassette, the FSA Gossamer Pro crankset and a clutch-equipped GRX rear derailleur deliver smooth gearing for climbs, flats and unpaved miles. GRX hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors guarantee dependable stopping power, while 45 mm Vee Tire Co. QuikStyk tyres on tubeless-ready rims add comfort and grip away from tarmac. Lighting is not part of the spec – instead, the Headlands 1 shines for bike touring: a Bear Box in the down tube stores tools and small gear, and rack plus mudguard eyelets open up plenty of mounting options. A notable extra is the UDH dropout, which keeps the frame compatible with future components.
The bike's namesake is the Marin Headlands, a windswept coastal ridge at the entrance to San Francisco's Golden Gate. The area is considered the birthplace of the American gravel scene – exactly that spirit of open terrain, rolling hills and carefree exploration is what Marin wanted to bring to tarmac and dirt alike.
The element »Headlands« is taken straight from the landscape that gives the series its name. The number »1« marks this model as the most affordable point of entry into the line – deliberately skipping the higher-end specification of its siblings.
The Headlands 1 shares its twelve-speed Shimano GRX gearing with the new-generation Headlands 2, as well as the handy Bear Box storage compartment. What it leaves out is a dropper post, carbon wheels and electronic shifting – precisely those omissions make it the service-friendly, budget-conscious base model of the family.
The Headlands 1 operates in the broad space between everyday riding and weekend adventure. With its 45 mm tyres, generous mounting points and in-frame storage, it works as an all-round gravel machine for commuters, leisure riders and bikepackers alike. Where the range climbs towards pure performance above, this model stands for simple, ample equipment for daily use.
