Enable Youtube videosThe B17 has been Brooks England's best-selling model for over 100 years. This page offers three versions: the classic B17, the B17 Short with a shorter nose, and the B17 Carved with a cut-out for pressure relief. All three are handcrafted in England and follow the same construction principle.
The seat surface is made of vegetable-tanned leather stretched over a steel rail and secured with tubular steel rivets. The leather top hangs like a hammock between nose and rear and gives slightly with every pedal stroke, which adds comfort on longer rides. Leather is also naturally breathable, allowing air and moisture to pass through. With increasing mileage it adapts to the individual shape of the rider and develops its own patina. All three variants are designed for a riding position with an incline of approx. 60°.
The standard model measures 275 mm in length and 175 mm in width and weighs around 520 g. It is the saddle for commuting, gravel, road riding and travelling. Riders looking for a proven, versatile model will find the basic form here on which the other two variants are built.
The B17 Short is designed for women and smaller riders and features a shorter nose. At 242 mm it is 33 mm shorter than the standard B17, while its width of 176 mm remains almost the same. At around 460 g it is also roughly 60 g lighter. It suits commuting, road riding, gravel, touring and trekking.
The B17 Carved shares the dimensions of the standard B17 (275 x 175 mm, approx. 520 g) but adds a registered cut-out that first appeared on Brooks saddles in the 1890s. It is aimed at riders specifically looking for pressure relief and is positioned as a touring saddle.
Because materials and workmanship are built for long use, Brooks leather saddles can be repaired. After product registration, Brooks England offers an extended 10-year guarantee.
All three variants stand for craftsmanship and lasting comfort. The B17 is the versatile standard choice, the B17 Short the right solution for a smaller frame, and the B17 Carved the variant with a cut-out for riders sensitive to pressure.
